| As an important carrier for the educational reform,the textbook plays an important guiding role for teaching.In the autumn of 2020,the ordinary high schools in Shanxi Province began to implement the new book in PEP(people’s education press)version,in which the section of 《Genetics and Evolution》 in Compulsory 2 of senior school biology is the key and difficult points of the national college entrance examination.In the actual teaching process,the author found that this section has become more difficult to teach due to the great changes in content,and some teachers have difficulties in adapting to the teaching of the new textbook because of their poor understanding of the textbook and their lack of awareness of the educational philosophy,which makes it difficult to implement the requirements of the new curriculum standards.Therefore,in this study,the author chose the 2019 edition in PEP version of the senior school biology textbook(Compulsory 2)(hereinafter referred to as the “new textbook”)to conduct a systematic comparison and analysis with the 2004 edition(hereinafter referred to as the“old textbook”),and conducted interviews with front-line teachers on the use of the new textbook.In the end,they put forward their suggestions for the future revision and implementation of the new textbook in the light of their own teaching.This study begins with an in-depth comparative analysis of the old and new textbooks at both macro and micro levels.Macroscopically,compared with the old textbook,the new textbook has the following features in terms of design and framework:(1)the design of the textbook is more reflective of the core literacy of biology,and the knowledge system is more in line with the cognitive rules of students;(2)the cover and catalogue of contents are more scientific and reasonable,and the adjustment of the chapter structure is more conducive to the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality.Microscopically,the new textbook has the following advantages from the textbook content,textbook columns and post-lesson exercises:(1)the content gives more prominence to the teaching of big ideas and the cultivation of core literacy,and becomes more standard,scientific,inquisitive and contextual;(2)the layout of the columns is more organized,and the content of the columns is more guided and practical;(3)the types of post-section and post-chapter exercises are closer to the college entrance examination and are more innovative.The number of situational exercises has increased significantly.Although the new textbook has obvious advantages over the old one,the author believed that there are still some aspects of the old textbook that are worth retaining and learning from,such as the fact that the number of concept mapping exercises is greater than the new textbook.Secondly,in response to the use of the new textbook,the author adopted questionnaire and interview methods to investigate and analyses 75 biology teachers from two key high schools in Xinzhou City,Shanxi Province.The results showed that teachers were satisfied with more than 70% of the new textbook in terms of the knowledge system,textbook framework,textbook sections and the adjustment of textbook content,and that students’ scientific thinking,national pride,social responsibility and interest in biology were significantly enhanced after using the new textbook.In terms of textbook design and after-school exercises,there are many different opinions.37.5% of teachers felt that they did not fully understand the changes in the design of the textbook,while 36.1% thought that there were still shortcomings in the adjustment of the after-school exercises,such as the difficulty of the exercises was not clearly differentiated,the quality of the exercises needed to be improved,and the illustrations of the exercises were not abundant.In addition,teachers with less than three years of teaching experience and those with more than 10 years of teaching experience had difficulties in adapting to teaching the new materials because they were not familiar with the materials and did not have a good understanding of the updated educational philosophy.Finally,based on the above comparative analysis and research results,combined with the teaching experience,the author put forward some suggestions for the revision of the textbook and its implementation.In terms of textbook revision:(1)enrich the number of exercise illustrations;(2)appropriately add some big idea-building questions;(3)due to limited class time and school resources,the experimental videos accompanying the textbook can be added for auxiliary teaching.In the aspect of the implementation of the textbook:(1)strengthen the training of teachers’ educational concepts;(2)encourage teachers to study the textbook in depth,pay attention t o them and use them creatively;(3)create a student-oriented class and increase activities during the class;(4)schools should update the supporting resources of the new textbook,etc.Through a comparative study of the textbooks and the analysis of the survey,this study summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of the new Compulsory 2 textbook in PEP version,and also makes its own suggestions for the revision and implementation of the new textbook.The study can serve as a reference for front-line teachers of senior secondary biology and other related personnel. |
