As an important part of the tertiary industry, the distribution industry has provided a large number of jobs for our labor force and made an important contribution to alleviating the severe employment situation in China. However,as the level of technology continues to improve,China’s distribution industry is also being upgraded and gradually modernized. The upgrading of the distribution industry makes its requirements for employees also increase, and the store-less retail mode, intelligent logistics distribution system, etc.bring certain pressure to the employment of low-qualified laborers. Therefore, the upgrading of the distribution industry does not always bring only positive effects on employment, but also has a crowding-out effect on employment.Based on this background, this paper summarizes the domestic and foreign research results and will be divided into five chapters to analyze the employment effects of the upgrading of the distribution industry in China.Firstly, the background, significance and existing theoretical results of this paper are introduced, and the research ideas and methods of this paper are explained;secondly, the theoretical basis of the employment effect of the upgrading of the distribution industry is discussed, mainly from three aspects: the theory of industrial upgrading, the theory of employment effect and the theory of coordination between industrial structure and employment structure;then, the mechanism of the employment effect of the upgrading of the distribution industry is Finally, the employment effects of the upgrading of the distribution industry are analyzed empirically, and conclusions are drawn. Finally, the employment effects of the upgrading of the distribution industry are analyzed empirically and conclusions are drawn. From the perspective of the output value of the distribution industry, the employment scale of the distribution industry has positive long-term and short-term elasticity to the increase of the output value of the distribution industry;from the perspective of the industry value chain, the employment scale of the distribution industry has positive long-term and short-term elasticity to the increase of labor productivity;from the perspective of the change of the output structure of the distribution industry, the employment scale of the distribution industry has positive long-term and short-term elasticity to the proportion of the output value of the wholesale, retail and accommodation and catering industry. At the same time,it has negative long-term and short-term elasticity to the output value of transportation, storage and postal industry. Therefore,it is important to improve the technology level of the distribution industry and promote the scale development of wholesale, retail and accommodation and catering industries to expand the employment scale. On the other hand,in terms of employment elasticity and structural deviation, compared with transportation, storage and postal industry, wholesale, retail and accommodation and catering industry is the main sector that absorbs employment, and the labor force will continue to shift to this type of industry.Meanwhile, with the upgrading of the distribution industry, its industrial structure and employment structure are becoming more and more coordinated, but there is still potential room for upward movement. Therefore,it is important to promote industrial restructuring to optimize the employment structure. To this end, this paper concludes with corresponding policy recommendations to provide some reference for continuously promoting the upgrading of the distribution industry, thus providing some reference for further expanding the employment scale and optimizing the employment structure.
