Based on multimodal theory,this paper analyzes the teaching of international Chinese ancient poetry to international students from Turkmenistan.The paper mainly adopts observation method of teaching practice,research integration method,questionnaire survey method and interview method,and discusses the guiding significance of multimodal theory to the teaching of international Chinese ancient poetry and how to combine multimodal theory with the teaching of international Chinese ancient poetry in the context of my own practical experience of teaching ancient poetry to Turkmen students in Xi’an Boai International School.The introductory section compares the current status of domestic and international research on multimodal theory and the teaching of international Chinese ancient poetry.Chapter 1 introduces the concept and practical significance of multimodal theory,and the significance of multimodal theory for international Chinese ancient poetry teaching.Chapter 2 examines the teaching practices of ancient poetry to international students from Turkmenistan under multimodal theory.Firstly,the international school where the international students are studying is introduced;secondly,the multimodal teaching practice of ancient poetry in different classes of the school is shown,including "Daybreak of Spring" in the junior class,"The Song of the Wandering Son" in the intermediate class and "The Beautiful Lady Yu When Will be the End of the Moonlit Autumns and Flowery Spring " in the advanced class;finally,the multimodal ancient poetry teaching is reflected through the questionnaire of the international students from Turkmenistan and the questionnaire and interview of the international Chinese teachers,which are divided into three aspects: teaching content,teachers and classroom environment.There are problems of inappropriate selection of teaching content,inadequate teacher image,teacher ability and teaching methods,and stereotypical and single classroom environment.Chapter 3 combines the above with suggestions for multimodal ancient poetry teaching:first,the selection of teaching content,which should be moderately difficult,storytelling and graphic,and easy to trigger students’ empathy.Second,the suggestions of teachers that covers improving teachers’ grooming,teacher’s appearance and teacher’s image,teachers’ ability to understand students and use modern education technology,and teachers’ ability to teach a variety of teaching methods by adding chanting,pictures or games to multimodal ancient poetry teaching.The third is the suggestions of classroom environment,i.e.enriching classroom decoration,flexible seating arrangement,and changing music and lighting.Chapter 4,under the guidance of multimodal theory,this paper presents the design of teaching international Chinese ancient poems.Due to the low Chinese proficiency of students in the beginner class,it is difficult to teach ancient poems smoothly,so the teaching design contains the first and second lessons of "The Title of the West Forest Wall" in the intermediate class and the first and second lessons of "Water Tuning Song-When Will the Bright Moon Arise" in the advanced class.
