As an educational means for children to participate in sports activities, sports games accord with the characteristics of students’ physical and mental development, and are both interesting and entertaining. At present, most of our primary and secondary schools adopt a single traditional teaching model, which results in boring physical education, students’ interest in sports decline, and physical fitness index can not be improved. In this study, functional training and sports games are combined to give full play to the synergistic effect of multi-joint muscle groups in functional training,so as to carry out interesting physical education suitable for children’s physical quality development.By means of flexible and interesting game teaching methods,it is expected to guide students to participate in sports games, stimulate students’ interest in learning, improve students’ physical quality, and provide practical reference for the development of primary school physical education,so as to promote the development of primary school physical education and improve the teaching quality.Research methods: This study used literature, teaching experiments, mathematical statistics and other research methods.A total of 30 girls in the fifth grade of Yanggao County No.2 High School Affiliated Primary School in Datong City were selected as the investigation objects, including 15 girls in the control group and 15 girls in the experimental group. The experimental group was taught by functional sports games, while the control group was taught by traditional physical education.Research results:A 12-week teaching experiment was carried out for the experimental group and the control group, with two classes per week. The students in the experimental group and the control group were tested before and after the experiment, and statistical methods such as non-parametric test, independent sample t test and paired sample t test were used to test and analyze the test results. There were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group before and after the experiment in lung capacity improvement,50 m,sitting forward bend,50 m ×8,standing long jump,one-minute sit-up and other exercises(p<0.05).There were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in 50 m,seated forward bend,50 m ×8,standing long jump and one-minute sit-up(p<0.05),but no significant differences in the vital capacity test(p=0.935>0.05).Compared with the girls in the experimental group and the control group, the average score of the experimental group was significantly better than the average score of the girls in the control group after the experimental intervention.Research conclusions:1.Compared with traditional physical education, functional sports games can better promote the physical quality of primary school students.2.Functional sports game teaching has a positive promoting effect on the improvement of cardiopulmonary endurance quality of primary school students.3.Functional sports games have a significant effect on improving the speed and agility of primary school students.4.Functional sports games play a positive role in improving the flexibility of primary school students.5.Functional sports games play a significant and positive role in improving explosive power and jumping ability of primary school students.6.Through the analysis of the performance growth data of the experimental group and the control group, the two teaching methods can effectively improve the performance of primary school students, but the functional physical education game teaching method has a more obvious increase.
