| Engagement in learning is an important indicator for monitoring student learning and an important predictor of academic performance.High-quality mathematics engagement is not only the direction of teachers’ struggle in classroom teaching,but also the solid foundation for improving students’ mathematics academic achievements.The initial phase is an important period for the development of a learning engagement,as well as for the development of a high-level learning engagement.As one of the important places for students to grow up,family is the most micro-environment that affects children’s development.Among them,the impact of parental involvement in education on the mathematical engagement of primary school pupils is often overlooked.Therefore,it is very important to investigate the impact of parental involvement in the educational process on primary school children’s engagement of mathematics.Further investigate the impact of parental involvement in education on the mathematical engagement of primary school pupils,this study selected urban and rural primary schools in different regions of Shandong Province,randomly selected primary school students in grades 4,5 and 6 and their parents as the subjects of the research,mainly used a questionnaire to analyse the impact of parental involvement in education on the mathematical engagement of primary school pupils,and used the questionnaire star to distribute and retrieve the questionnaire online.Through descriptive statistical analysis,analysis of variance,correlation analysis and regression analysis of the questionnaire data,the following conclusions were finally obtained:Firstly,there were differences in parental education involvement under different background variables.Among them,there are differences in parents’ overall educational involvement,with mothers’ educational involvement being higher than fathers’ educational involvement overall;the educational involvement of fathers of Grade 5 and 6 students being higher than that of Grade 4;the emotional involvement of parents of only children being higher than that of non-only children;and the educational involvement of parents in urban areas being higher than that of parents in counties,towns and rural areas.Second,primary school students’ engagement in mathematics learning differed across contextual variables.Among them,boys’ engagement in mathematics learning was higher than that of girls;and primary school students’ engagement in mathematics learning was higher in Grade 5 than that of Grade 4.Third,parental involvement in mathematics significantly influenced primary school students’ engagement in mathematics.Among them,parental affective involvement,behavioral management involvement and intellectual involvement all had an impact on primary school students’ engagement in mathematics learning.Based on the above findings,the following recommendations were made:enriching emotional involvement to lay the foundation of primary school students’ engagement in mathematics;optimizing behavioral management involvement to improve the effectiveness of primary school students’ engagement in mathematics;and increasing intellectual involvement to strengthen the backing of primary school students’ engagement in mathematics. |
