Prose combines the beauty of form and content, and essayists express their vision of the world in symbolic words that bear meaning. How to develop aesthetic skills in students has been a continuing concern in educational and academic circles.Prose occupies an extremely important place, both in junior language textbooks and in reading examinations over the years.Using the qualities of the beauty of prose to develop students’ aesthetic abilities is an optimal choice. The teaching of modern prose in junior high school is based on the cultivation of students’ aesthetic abilities, which can cultivate students’ abilities of aesthetic discovery, aesthetic perception, aesthetic appreciation and aesthetic creation in many ways and in many ways,so that students can gain life insights and cultivate aesthetic sentiments while enjoying beautiful texts. In this paper,we study the teaching of modern prose in junior high school with the aim of cultivating students’ aesthetic ability, taking the requirement of "establishing moral education" as the goal and the Language Curriculum Standards for Full-time Compulsory Education(2022 edition)as the basis. The introductory section includes five aspects: research background, significance of the chosen topic, research methodology, research review and definition of core concepts. The first chapter analyses the conditions underlying the use of modern prose in junior high school language for aesthetic education. It mainly analyses the physical and mental development of junior high school students as well as the characteristics of text selections from junior high school language textbooks. In this chapter, starting from relevant studies in psychology and education, the analysis reveals that junior high school students’ thinking and emotions and their sense of autonomy are developing at different rates during this period, and that correct organisation and guidance by teachers can help them establish correct aesthetic concepts. The number of modern prose selections in the proportion of middle school language textbooks cannot be underestimated, providing quality resources for the overall development of students. The second chapter investigates and analyses the current situation of prose teaching and learning in junior high school through the design of a questionnaire, and summarises the problems found in a structured manner. On the one hand, students have low interest in reading modern prose, poor aesthetic perception, weak aesthetic transferability, lack of subjective awareness, fast food reading and habitual appropriation of the author’s experience;on the other hand, teachers have weak aesthetic theory, utilitarian educational aims, neglect of the aesthetic calling of the text and schematic teaching methods. The third chapter focuses on proposing strategies based on the problems,in which three main aspects are developed: creating a context to stimulate interest and perception;improving literacy and paying attention to details;and changing concepts and promoting multiple understandings.Attention is paid not only to the learning of theoretical foundations, but also to the depth of resources mined in the learning process. This study is based on the frontline, and is based on the Ministry’s junior high school language teaching materials,pedagogical-psychological theories and previous research findings.By analysing the problems that arise in using modern prose to develop students’ aesthetic skills, the study proposes useful strategies for improvement.
