With the development of the theories about aesthetic education after the founding of PRC, the role of aesthetic education in school education has been changing for several times. But scholars have generally realized the important role of aesthetic education in school teaching during this process. The 8th basic education curricula reform advocated by the Education Ministry in 1999 raised the attention to aesthetic education once again. However, aesthetic education is far insufficient only by means of art subjects in school teaching. Actually, Chinese also has great aesthetic value, and it is an important way of fulfilling aesthetic education. The curricula reform paid great attention to fulfill aesthetic education through Chinese teaching."Aesthetics"has been mentioned 23 times in Common High School Chinese Curricula Standard, pointing out that Chinese plays an important role in aesthetic education; high school Chinese teaching should pay attention to student's affective development, make students to be edified by beauty; train students'autonomic aesthetic awareness, distinguished taste, aesthetic sensitivity and creativity. Modern prose (prose in modern times is a kind of genre, just as poem, novel, and drama.) called"aesthetic article"has great aesthetic character. Such characters make modern prose have crucial aesthetic value in Chinese teaching.This paper takes advantage of case study to investigate the present fulfillment of aesthetic education in modern prose teaching in Anhui Suixi County Yucai Middle School (called M middle school in this paper) where the author has studied in, find out reasons and make suggestions. The study aims at to achieve the effect that could be generalized, which is able to reflect the present situation of fulfilling aesthetic value in prose teaching in certain schools and provide reference for future prose teaching regarding aesthetic value.
