As a topic of concern in the field of education both at home and abroad,home-school communication is not only an important factor in the formation of home-school cooperation,but also an important way to promote the overall development of students.The effectiveness of home-school communication in elementary schools depends on effective communication between parents and teachers.However,the current polarized problem of extreme lack or excessive proliferation of elementary school home-school communication has become a focus topic.The communication mechanism embedded in Habermas’ theory of interactional behavior is unique in sociology,and this perspective is used to examine home-school communication and provide directions for optimizing home-school communication in elementary schools.To explore elementary school home-school communication from the perspective of Interaction Behavior Theory means to understand home-school communication as an interaction relationship,i.e.,"home-school interaction".Specifically,in elementary school home-school communication situations,parents and teachers engage in a series of communication activities that share the same consensus and emotions,and are influenced by process comprehensibility,content authenticity,approach correctness,and subject sincerity.In order to understand the current status of home-school communication in elementary schools,teachers L,C,and Y and the parents of their classes in elementary school L in Z were used as the subjects of the study.A combination of questionnaire,interview and observation methods were used to collect and organize data based on adherence to research principles.The results of the study revealed that there are problems of alienation in elementary school homeschool communication,which are mainly manifested in four aspects: in the comprehensibility of the communication process,there is limited two-way dialogue between home and school,resulting in parents’ lack of comprehension;teachers’ lack of listening and responding,and neglect of parents’ expression of ideas.In terms of the authenticity of the communication content,there are problems of bias in the information conveyed by parents,which leads to onesided understanding by teachers,and lack of comprehensiveness of communication due to the single type of focus.In terms of the correctness of communication methods,there are problems that the communication methods of home and school are relatively solid,which obscure the flexibility of communication,and the teachers’ lack of situational awareness hinders the choice of communication methods.In terms of the sincerity of the communication subject,there are problems that the communication relationship between home and school is out of harmony and the communication atmosphere is rigid,and the emotions of home and school are inappropriately expressed,resulting in the lack of emotional experience.Based on the theoretical perspective to find the causes of the problem,four aspects were identified: first,they were influenced by cultural capital,i.e.,teachers’ cultural capital constraints and parents’ cultural capital limitations;second,they were influenced by parents’ ambiguous role positioning and dual conflicts in the education system;Third,it is influenced by the infiltration of instrumental rational thought and the time constraint of the communication subject;Fourth,they are affected by the power imbalance between home and school and the differences in parent-teacher personalities.On the basis of exploring the causes,we suggest optimizing from four aspects,i.e.,on the comprehension level,teachers should improve communication literacy and accumulate cultural capital;parents should update their communication concept and break through cultural barriers.On the level of authenticity,parents should clarify the main responsibility and reflect the real problems;home and school should implement quality education and enrich the content of communication.At the level of correctness,teachers integrate communication channels and ensure smooth communication;teachers improve situational awareness and coordinate communication time.On the level of sincerity,home and school build equal relationships and create a harmonious atmosphere;both sides adjust their emotional expressions and enhance their emotional experiences.
