| Since the reform and opening up,the development of China’s market economy and the reform of the household registration system have brought about large-scale and continuous population mobility. While promoting urbanization and economic growth, the migrant population has endured the harsh living environment in cities, and their physical and mental health has been greatly affected. With the deepening of the housing market, the floating population is gradually differentiated from local residents in terms of housing location and living patterns, gathering regularly in different locations in the city, and the spatial differentiation of living and even residential segregation is an important factor leading to the health of the floating population. How to improve the current situation and health level of the floating population will test the fairness and long-term sustainability of China’s urbanization process, and is a major problem that needs to be solved in order to improve people’s livelihood and promote the construction of a healthy China;the impact of residential segregation on the health of the floating population has become an emerging research area at the intersection of economics,Chinese geography, sociology and urban planning. However, research in this area is still in its infancy, and its theoretical development needs to be supported by more different research cases;the scope of existing research on residential segregation is mostly focused on the macro level, ignoring the impact of community environment and even housing conditions on the health of the floating population in relation to the micro social space. In view of this, this study intends to break through the above-mentioned shortcomings and limitations of the research so far,and expand the scope of the research on residential segregation to three different levels of dimensions, including residential segregation itself, community environment and housing conditions, using data from the "Housing and Health" project conducted by Wenzhou Medical University and Wenzhou Health Planning Commission in Wenzhou in 2017,to investigate the impact of residential segregation on the health of floating populations.In-depth research was conducted on the impact of residential segregation on the health of floating populations. The main findings and conclusions are as follows.(1)Residential segregation has a significant negative impact on the health of the floating population.First, residential segregation significantly reduces the health of floating populations at both macro and micro scales.Second, the spatiotemporal behaviors that arise with segregation also have a significant impact on the health of floating populations.Residential segregation is achieved by moving, and the more the number of moves, the worse it is for the self-rated health of the floating population;residential segregation increases the commuting distance of the floating population, and the longer the commuting distance, the worse it is for their mental health.Again, intergroup exclusion and discrimination, exposure to environmental pollution, and the type of community in which they live are also important pathways through which segregation processes cause different health outcomes, resulting in unequal health outcomes.(2)Housing conditions and community environment are important social factors that affect the health of floating populations.First of all,the impact of housing conditions on health is mainly manifested in the improvement of indoor basic facilities, space congestion and improvement of housing sound insulation will significantly improve the health of the floating population;the impact of community environment on health is mainly manifested in the improvement of community service facilities, reduction of social disorder in the community and improvement of the sense of community security will significantly improve the health of the floating population.(3)The overall health status of the floating population is good, and the prevalence of chronic diseases is significantly lower than that of local residents, but they do not show significant health selection advantages in terms of self-rated health and psychological health compared to local residents, instead, there is a tendency to overestimate self-perception of health and an inherent attrition effect of mobility experience on health. The differences in chronic disease prevalence between the floating population and local residents are concentrated in urban-rural differences, while the differences in mental health are reflected in the local/foreign differences caused by domicile affiliation, and such identity differences caused by the domicile system make the floating population bear heavy health costs. |
