Cultivating talents with core literacy in the new era is the basic path to implementing moral education and cultivating people.Mathematical abstraction is not only an important component of the core literacy of mathematics, but also an important mathematical thinking tool that helps students form rational thinking and enables them to understand and think about the real world with a mathematical perspective throughout their mathematical learning.Mathematics teaching is an important way to cultivate students’ abstract thinking, but most of the teaching research on the cultivation of mathematical abstract thinking focuses on the middle school stage, with less involvement in the primary school stage. The sixth grade of primary school is an important period for the development of students’ abstract thinking. Therefore, this study focuses on the cultivation of mathematical abstract thinking among sixth graders in primary schools, conducts theoretical research and current surveys, and proposes teaching strategies to promote the development of mathematical abstract thinking among sixth graders in primary schools.First of all, this study uses the literature method to summarize relevant research on mathematical abstract thinking, understand the current research situation on mathematical abstract thinking of primary school students, and determine the theoretical basis for the study.Secondly, explore the connotation, types, characteristics, processes, and other contents of abstract thinking among primary school students.Thirdly, use classroom observation to understand the current situation of the cultivation of mathematical abstract thinking among sixth grade primary school students, and combine classroom observation with interviews with teachers and students to gain an in-depth understanding of existing specific issues.Subsequently, through case analysis, two typical cases were selected from actual observations to analyze and explore effective methods for cultivating mathematical abstract thinking among sixth grade primary school students. Finally, through in-depth analysis of the survey results, combining theoretical and practical investigations, the author proposes teaching strategies for cultivating mathematical abstract thinking among sixth grade primary school students. The survey results show that there are still some problems in cultivating students’ abstract thinking in mathematics teaching in the sixth grade of primary school. For example, teachers’ own mathematical abstraction literacy needs to be improved; The goal setting of abstract thinking cultivation is relatively general;Teachers lack analysis of mathematical abstract content and materials; It is easy to neglect the cultivation of abstract thinking in teaching activities. In response to the above existing problems, strategies are proposed based on theoretical discussion, current situation investigation, and case analysis. It mainly includes: paying attention to setting up teaching objectives to cultivate students’ abstract mathematical thinking;Deeply analyze the content elements of abstract thinking in mathematics courses;Enhancing students’ experience of abstract thinking process in mathematics teaching;Cultivate students’ abstract thinking through the use of thinking methods.
