In recent years, with the continuous liberalization of the birth policy, more and more women choose to return to their families and join the full-time mothers. However,in the process of taking on the tasks of raising children and taking care of families, many stay-at-home mothers in cities have fallen into a self-doubt and low self-worth dilemma. For a long time, not only are full-time mothers prone to physical and mental problems, but also their family life will have emotional crisis,so it is urgent to improve their sense of self-worth.With the rise of post-modern psychotherapy, narrative therapy and painting therapy, which are the most representative, provide a good idea for this paper to intervene and enhance the self-worth of stay-at-home mothers in cities. In this study,40 stay-at-home mothers in C community of P city were randomly selected to investigate their self-worth,and it was found that most stay-at-home mothers were at a low level of self-worth.Through a series of questionnaires and interviews,it is further found that the low self-worth of stay-at-home mothers in cities is mainly manifested in low self-evaluation,active avoidance of social interaction, and lack of self-confidence.At the same time,it is found that the main reasons for the low self-worth of stay-at-home mothers are lack of self-identity,gradual alienation of social support networks, inadequate emotional understanding and support of family members, low social recognition and integration, and there are needs to enhance self-identity,expand interpersonal communication, enhance emotional support, and improve social integration.Further, the author selected a stay-at-home mother,Ms.L,who has a typical low sense of self-worth.Based on the family system theory, empowerment theory and labeling theory, she carried out six case interventions with the specific goals of expressing negative emotions, clarifying misconceptions, strengthening emotional understanding and support of family members and expanding interpersonal circles, aiming at achieving the overall goal of improving self-worth.Finally,the author used the adult self-worth questionnaire to evaluate the service effect of case work. The results showed that the combination of narrative therapy and painting therapy improved the scores of self-worth of the case owner in different degrees. This intervention changed the biased cognition of the case owner, improved the self-confidence and self-identity of the case owner, and made him hope for a better life in the future. It can be seen that narrative therapy and painting therapy can play a unique role in the practical research of improving the self-worth of stay-at-home mothers. However, due to the author’s limited research ability and research conditions, this paper also has some shortcomings.I hope more researchers will further study and explore ways to enhance the self-worth of stay-at-home mothers in cities in the future, and help them develop healthily physically and mentally.
