| The issues surrounding the survival,value and plight of e-sports have received widespread attention following the inclusion of the sport by the state.Many offline sporting events have had to be postponed or canceled due to the epidemic,but e-sports can be played online,so it has become a major highlight of the sports industry in recent years.E-sports are born out of video games,and video games are the carrier of e-sports.The localized translation of foreign video games is an important part of the game to be introduced into the country,and although the culture of Taiwan is the same as that of the mainland,the localized translations of games on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are different.League of Legends is one of the most popular video games in China and even in the world.This study takes the Taiwanese translation and the mainland translation of 162 characters in League of Legends as the research corpus,combines the language variation and language contact theories in sociolinguistics,and uses the literature method,comparative research method,case study method,and co-occurrence and chronological research method pairs,and analyzes the inconsistent language choice in English to Chinese translation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.And this paper explores the connection between language phenomena and social phenomena to provide new ideas for the study of localized translation of video games,as well as to provide some reference for the study of language variation phenomena in various regions.This paper consists of six parts.The first part,the preface,elaborates the basis of writing this paper from the national policy orientation,and explains the theoretical significance,practical significance,research object and research method of this study.The second part is a literature review,which explains the relationship between localization and translation,and sorts out the current situation of game localization translation,the study of language differences between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait,and the development line of translation research under the view of sociolinguistics.The third part is a theoretical basis,discussing the theory of language variation and language contact theory in sociolinguistics,and explaining the research path.In the fourth part,translation examples are analyzed,i.e.,a comparative analysis of two versions of translations is conducted for different categories of research materials.In the fifth part,the social factors that cause the differences between the two translations are explored on the basis of language variation theory and language contact theory.In the sixth part,the conclusion integrates and summarizes the previous analysis and makes suggestions for the translation of game localization. |
