In July 2021,the General Office of the Central Committee of China and the State Council issued the "Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Homework and Offcampus Training for Students in Compulsory Education",proposing that students should carry out appropriate physical exercises in their spare time to promote their comprehensive development.School physical education has become the key to student education,and school physical education in rural areas has ushered in new opportunities for development,attracting increasing attention from all sectors of society.However,due to the lagging economic development in rural areas,the development of school physical education still faces significant challenges.How to develop rural school physical education well is the main issue that needs to be addressed urgently.Using the methods of literature,logical analysis,mathematical statistics,questionnaire survey,and expert interviews,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 540 students and 15 teachers from six rural junior high schools in Yilong County,including Wenxing Middle School,Huichun Middle School,Lishan Middle School,Saijin Middle School,Erdao Middle School,and Dayin Middle School.Five senior teachers were interviewed to understand the basic information of physical education teachers,school venues and equipment,physical education curriculum settings,extracurricular physical exercise Analyze the current situation of sports competitions,analyze the existing problems and the reasons for the problems.The results show that:(1)The number of physical education teachers in six rural junior high schools in Yilong County meets the ratio of rural primary and secondary schools to full-time physical education teachers.The educational background,age,and gender structure of physical education teachers are relatively reasonable.However,their scientific research ability is low,there are fewer opportunities for further education and learning,their occupational happiness index is low,and their job satisfaction is not high.(2)The six rural junior high schools in Yilong County invest less in sports funds,have limited and relatively backward venues,have a relatively small number of sports equipment purchased,and have a serious aging phenomenon with no regular maintenance and lack of management.(3)The development of physical education courses is good,and students have good adaptability.However,most physical education teachers have traditional teaching methods and single teaching methods,mainly focusing on explanation and demonstration,and mainly focusing on basketball,football,and track and field events.(4)56.85% of the students in the six rural junior high schools in Yilong County have extracurricular physical exercise time of 1 hour or less per day,and 59.07% of the exercise forms are mainly free activities,which lack the richness and education of extracurricular activities.(5)The frequency of sports competitions held in six rural junior high schools in Yilong County is relatively low.Affected by the epidemic,one school has not held sports competitions throughout the year,while most schools only hold 1-2 competitions throughout the year.The forms of sports competitions are mainly concentrated in basketball matches,track and field games,fun sports meetings,and sports knowledge competitions.The single form of sports competitions and lack of innovation lead to insufficient understanding of the project and weak awareness of exercise among students.Based on the above research results,the following suggestions are proposed:(1)Strengthen the supervision and management of school sports;(2)Scientifically allocating physical education teachers in rural schools;(3)Guarantee sports funds and improve supporting facilities;(4)Expand teacher training and enhance teacher professional skills;(5)Optimizing and integrating the existing sports resources of the school;(6)Strive to create rural school sports culture;(7)Changing traditional educational concepts of teachers and parents;(8)Expand the physical education knowledge base of parents and teachers.
