| Violent media exposure can increase personal hostility and resentment, reduce social trust and support, and make nearby people unwilling to communicate with them, resulting in unsatisfied social desires.Cyberbullying is a deliberate attack by a group or individual on individuals who are unable to protect themselves multiple times during a certain period of time through the internet. The relationship between exposure to violent media and online bullying among middle school students is particularly common in everyone’s lives. However, compared to previous studies, there is not much discussion on their two relationships. This article aims to analyze their relationship from the perspective of online bullying. And two possible intermediate variables were added: self-control and violent attitude, and their mediating and moderating roles in the two were discussed separately. This article has three sub studies to investigate the relationship between the two.Study 1 will first investigate the relationship between violent exposure to media and online bullying. This study uses a questionnaire survey method and randomly selects 219 middle school students. The experiment uses the "Media Violence Exposure Questionnaire" and "Online Bullying Scale" to conduct experiments on the subjects. The results show that positive media violence exposure is positively correlated with online bullying among middle school students. The higher the level of positive media violence exposure among individual middle school students, the more likely they are to develop online bullying; There is a negative correlation between negative media violence and online bullying. The higher the negative media violence, the less online bullying there is.Study 2 introduced violent attitude as an intermediate variable to further analyze the mediating role of violent attitude in online bullying and media violent contact. The study randomly selected 150 middle school students as subjects to use the "Media Violence Exposure Questionnaire","Violence Attitude Questionnaire" and "point estimation Online Bullying Experimental Paradigm" to test the degree of online bullying, violence attitude and media violence exposure. The results show that among individuals among middle school students, violent attitudes have an absolute mediating role in media violence and online bullying among middle school students.Middle school students who actively engage in media violence, those with higher scores, use a higher level of violent attitude, leading to more online bullying. However, middle school students who engage in negative media violence and those with higher scores tend to reduce their violent attitudes, making them less likely to engage in online bullying. To further investigate the intermediate mechanism between the two,self-control was introduced as a moderating variable in Study III.Further exploring the moderating role of self-control in media violent contact and online bullying,in this experiment,130 middle school students were tested to investigate the moderating role of self-control in the relationship between media violent contact and online bullying by activating different levels of self-control.The results showed that self-control played a moderating role in the relationship between active media violence and online bullying among middle school students.Under high levels of self-control,high school students with high levels of active media violence are more prone to online bullying than those with low levels of active media violence.Under low levels of self-control,participants with different levels of active media violence exposure did not find any significant differences in media online bullying.Different degrees of self-control have no moderating effect in the relationship between the two. From the above research,it can be concluded that(1)there is a clear correlation between media violence and online bullying among individual middle school students. The higher the level of personal active media violence exposure, the more likely it is to lead to online bullying; The higher the level of violent contact with negative media, the less likely it is to lead to online bullying.(2)After adding the intermediate variable of violent attitude,it plays an absolute mediating role in the relationship between positive media violent contact and online bullying, while violent attitude also plays an absolute mediating role in the relationship between negative media violent contact and online bullying.(3)Different degrees of self-control among participants play a moderating role in the relationship between positive media violence and online bullying. The research results of this article enrich the relevant research in the field of online bullying and contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanism of interaction between media violent contact and online bullying.Meanwhile, the research results of this article provide a new approach for the study of mental health education for middle school students. |
