| Spatial concepts are one of the necessary mathematical abilities of primary school students, which not only helpful to the students in their daily life and learning, but also to develop their creative ability. On this basis,it is very important to know the status situation of the development of students’ spatial conception and the existing problems. The main research questions of this study are:(1)What is the overall development level of sixth grade students’ spatial concepts?(2)What is the development level of each dimension and its correlation analysis?(3)What are the obstacles existing in each dimension test and the reason analysis. As for the above research questions,The research methods of this research are document study, test, interview and statistical analysis.Based on a great deal of literature and knowledge of domestic and foreign related theories, four major content dimensions of spatial concept measurement were divided, and 213sixth-grade students from Primary School A in Liupanshui City and Primary School Z in Liaocheng City were tested with self-administered questionnaires based on the content of the Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2022Edition)and related teaching materials.Based on the responses of the students, the data was compiled and analyzed by SPSS25.0.(1)In terms of overall performance, the sixth graders’ spatial concepts are basically at an intermediate level. In terms of content dimensions, spatial concepts are closely related to each dimension, and there is a positive correlation between the two dimensions. In the dimension of "axis symmetry",the students performed better, and in the dimension of "three views and expansion diagram",the students performed worse.(2)With regard to the differences among schools, there are significant differences between students in School A in urban area of Liupanshui City and School Z in rural town of Liaocheng City, and the level of spatial concepts of students in School A was better than that in School Z.(3)In the spatial concept test, students’ obstacles mainly come from two aspects. The first is the knowledge level, where students have a vague understanding of concepts, unclear perception of shapes and lack of spatial imagination;the second is the psychological level, where they are not careful in examining questions and are influenced by thinking stereotypes.Based on the above findings, the teaching suggestions for cultivating students’ spatial concepts were proposed: accumulating spatial concept materials and encouraging spatial imagination;using students’ spatial concept errors to solve problems;and improving students’ ability to do hands-on work. |
