Investigation And Research On The Development Status Of Space Concepts In The Sixth Grade Of Primary School

The sense of space is the foundation of the development of spatial imagination and students' mathematics ability.As matter of fact,the establishment of a strong sense of space plays a key role in mathematics teaching of primary school as well as the whole compulsory education stage.As one of the core contents of mathematics learning,a strong sense of space has a significant impact on graphics and geometry learning,which might cultivate students' geometric understanding,spatial imagination and reasoning ability.This research mainly investigates the current situation of sense of space development of primary school students,and proposes effective strategies for cultivating sense of space.Based on the "Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2011 Edition)",this study investigate some students from Daxue South Road Primary School and Daxue South Road Primary School Branch in Xi'an.Correspondingly,several methods are used in research,for instance,literature method,questionnaire survey,mathematical testing,interview.Meanwhile,this study mainly focuses on the following questions,such as the current progress of sense of space learning in primary school,teacher's influence on students' sense of space establishment,and how to cultivate and establish the sense of space for primary school students.Through the investigation and analysis of primary students' maths learning,the following conclusions are obtained:1.students have insufficient ability to convert from abstract thinking to intuitive thinking;2.they are lack of awareness of apply what they have learned in their life;3.Insufficient practical operation ability of students;4.Teachers' views of space affects teaching results;5.There are few dimensions for primary students' learning evaluation system.Finally,based on the findings of this study,the following suggestions are put forward to develop the understanding of space for primary school students:1.Strengthen students' practical operation ability;2.The sense of space establishment is a long-term process;3.Take advantage of modern educational means to learning knowledge;4.Considering students' growth situation,cognitive ability,and learning progress while teaching sense of space;5.There are various methods to cultivate students' sense of space,and by creating a specific situation maths teaching combined with daily life for primary students should be considered;6.Try to avoid using a single teaching mode,adjust the traditional evaluation system and teaching evaluation means,and focus on the sense of space establishment progress;7.Pay attention to the connection and mutual penetration of knowledge.
