Prosocial behavior is a key link in maintaining a benign bond between people and an important manifestation of adolescent social competence.Prosocial behaviour is influenced by both genetics and environmental influences such as family parenting styles.This study used questionnaire survey to explore the influence of parenting style on the prosocial behavior of junior high school students,and the role of self-compassion and self-esteem in it.Taking 455 junior high school students in Tianjin as the research subjects,the simplified parenting style questionnaire Chinese(S-EMBU-C),the Chinese version of the Adolescent Prosocial Tendency Questionnaire(PTM),the Chinese version of the Self-Compassion Scale(SCS)and the Self-esteem Scale(RSES)were used to measure the parenting style,prosocial behavior,self-compassion and self-esteem of junior high school students,and the current situation of parents’ parenting style,prosocial behavior,self-compassion and self-esteem were investigated,and the influence of parental parenting style,self-compassion and self-esteem on the prosocial behavior of junior high school students was explored.The results show that the parenting style of parents differs significantly in demographic variables such as gender,grade,whether they serve as class leaders,and whether they are only children.Self-compassion differed significantly in gender and grade of junior high school students,prosocial behavior differed significantly in whether junior high school students served as class leaders,and self-esteem and self-compassion and self-criticism differed significantly in whether junior high school students were only children.Self-compassion and self-esteem play a chain mediating role between parents’ emotional warmth parenting style and the prosocial behavior of junior high school students,that is,parents’ emotional warmth can not only directly affect the prosocial behavior of junior high school students,but also affect the prosocial behavior of junior high school students through self-compassion and self-esteem.The role of chain mediation is not valid in the dimensions of parental rejection and parental overprotection,but self-compassion is an important variable.This study found that the parenting style of emotional warmth has a positive effect on self-compassion,self-esteem and prosocial behavior of junior high school students,and parents should pay attention to providing emotional care and warm response in daily life,set expectations and requirements within a reasonable range,and create a relaxed and friendly family atmosphere.Provide the guidance your child needs and the help they expect to receive,without interfering too much with their decisions and attempts;Dialogue with children on an equal footing so that children can learn enough respect and security.This study provides guidance for the selection and revision of parents’ parenting styles,provides a new model for home-school joint cultivation of prosocial behavior of junior high school students,provides a new path for the correct and appropriate development of self-esteem and self-compassion,and provides new ideas for implementing the fundamental educational tasks of moral cultivation and the specific tasks of mental health education in primary and secondary schools.
