As an innovative section of the compulsory language textbook,the Unit Learning Tasks break the limitations of the previous versions of language textbooks by integrating the unit study content with the learning tasks as the driving force,providing a reference for teachers to design and carry out teaching activities,as well as a direction for students to learn the unit content independently.However,in front-line teaching,teachers and students are not using the Unit Learning Tasks to good effect.In order to lead teachers to effectively develop and utilise the Unit Learning Tasks and to maximise their teaching value.This paper focuses on the use of Unit Learning Tasks in language teaching and learning.There are five main sections:The first part is an introduction.This section describes the origins of the study in terms of the desirable and practical needs for the use of Unit Learning Tasks,and provides an overview of the Unit Learning Tasks in terms of their presentation,use strategies and instructional design,as well as identifying the significance of the study and explaining the methodology.The second part is an analysis of the Unit Learning Tasks.It begins with a basic description of the Unit Learning Tasks,followed by an in-depth analysis of their organisation in terms of external links and internal composition,and finally an analysis of the design features of the Unit Learning Tasks.The third part is a conceptualisation of the use of the Unit Learning Tasks.Based on an analysis of the layout and design features of the Unit Learning Tasks,an ideal model for the use of the Unit Learning Tasks is developed in terms of adequacy,flexibility and depth of use,taking into account teaching practice.The fourth section covers the current status of the use of the Unit Learning Tasks.Based on the concept of the use of the Unit Learning Tasks,a questionnaire and interview outline were designed to investigate the current use of the Unit Learning Tasks.Through analysis of the survey data,it was found that the use of Unit Learning Tasks is inadequate,stereotypical and shallow.The fifth part of the course is about strategies for optimising the use of Unit Learning Tasks.Based on the theoretical analysis and practical investigation of Unit Learning Tasks,specific strategies for optimising the use of Unit Learning Tasks are proposed: The following strategies are proposed to optimise the use of unit learning tasks: grasp the links and strengthen the process to achieve full use;process the tasks and optimise the methods to achieve flexible use;create contexts and construct independently to promote in-depth use.
