Facing the needs of information industrialization and innovative society in the new era for broad-caliber and application-oriented compound information talents,the library and information education in the new era should be urgently reformed to meet the needs of the society.Due to the late start of the enrollment of Chinese library and information majors,the development of practical ability training has certain deficiencies.In addition,the existing research focuses on introducing experience,and mostly introduces practical ability training as a sub-direction of talent training research,and seldom studies the practice ability training as a core element.Therefore,on the basis of comprehensively summarizing domestic and foreign research trends and domestic practical teaching experience,it is necessary to face up to the current situation and demands of teachers and students in the cultivation of practical abilities of students and teachers in China.Conduct a comprehensive and systematic study of the development status,problems and improvement strategies.Firstly,the current situation and needs of students’ practical ability training in domestic library and information colleges and universities are investigated through questionnaires,and the problems existing in the process of practical ability training are analyzed based on the demands of teachers and students;Practical ability training objectives,courses,teachers,teaching conditions and management mechanism are investigated on the current situation of practical ability training,and its practical experience is summarized.The five analytical dimensions of teacher,environment and management evaluation analyze the existing problems of practical ability education.On this basis,focusing on the five components of practical ability training,specific improvement strategies are proposed accordingly: First,from the target elements,MLIS personnel training goals that highlight practical attributes should be formulated.The training objectives of high-level,applied and compound talents should be highlighted from three aspects: facing the new liberal arts,grasping the characteristics of professional and master students,and facing the needs of society;secondly,from the perspective of curriculum elements,we should create a practical teaching curriculum with multiple characteristics.Through the empowerment of information technology,the form of practical courses is enriched,and the content and direction of courses are updated and refined to meet social needs and complex occupational needs.It is reflected in the implementation of the "dual tutor" mechanism,the improvement of teachers’ practical teaching ability through the combination of introduction and training,and the implementation of tutor responsibilities and clear practical teaching tasks;fourth,from the environmental elements,a multi-level high-quality practical teaching environment should be created.Optimize the practical teaching environment through the integration of production and education and the empowerment of informatization,and continuously enrich the teaching methods to optimize the teaching environment of the course;Fifth,from the management evaluation elements,a scientific management evaluation mechanism of "promoting reform through evaluation" should be established,which is reflected in the training units.The mechanism should clarify the tasks of practical teaching,strengthen the performance appraisal of tutors’ practical training and evaluation,and implement the supervision and evaluation mechanism of students’ practical training.
