From the Soil: the Foundations of Chinese Society is a scholarly study of rural China written by Fei Xiaotong, and is actually perfect for high school students as an introduction to reading the entire book. However, teachers still use the traditional "single part lecture" method to teach, ignoring the systematic nature of the whole book;students still have the problem of not being able to finish a book and not understanding it even after reading it.It is especially difficult for art students,a special group with a weak cultural foundation and poor reading comprehension ability,to complete the reading of the whole book in high school. In response to this situation, the author proposes to use the way of integration of literature and painting to help read the whole book of From the Soil: the Foundations of Chinese Society.Through the linkage of art and literature, the study aims to make full use of the advantages of art special students, based on elements related to art professional skills such as sketching, drawing, watercolor and gouache painting, etc. For the four different reading stages including pre.reading, skimming, leading and following, and scanning, four kinds of teaching contexts are created: following the pictures into the text, drawing according to the text, sequencing and exploring, complementing the text according to the pictures.By awakening students’ enthusiasm for reading, the study aims to create the maximum reading perception, form paradigmatic habits, and cultivate cultural literacy by drawing to promote reading.
