In November 2022,the National Health and Wellness Commission of the People’s Republic of China issued the "Guidelines for Healthy Parenting and Care of Infants and Young Children under 3 Years of Age(for Trial Implementation)",which proposes that parents are the first responsible person for the parenting and healthy growth of infants and young children, and that it is crucial to improve the level of healthy parenting of parenting. The "China’s Child Development Program(2021-2030)" also points out that the healthy growth of children is an inexhaustible driving force for sustainable national development, and that the concept that parents or other guardians are the first responsible person for children’s health should be strengthened to improve the health literacy of caregivers in order to better promote the healthy growth of young children. But as the first responsible person for children’s health, what kind of health literacy should parents of young children have? What is the current situation of health literacy? What are the influencing factors? How should the health literacy level of parents of young children be cultivated and improved? These questions have not yet been effectively addressed and need to be further enriched. This study combines literature, books and national policies, constructs an evaluation system of health literacy of parents of young children, takes 386 parents of young children in Nanchang as the research subjects, uses questionnaires and interviews to investigate and analyze three dimensions of health knowledge and concept, healthy lifestyle and behavior, and health skills,to understand the current situation and main problems of health literacy of parents of young children in Nanchang, analyzes the influencing factors of health literacy of parents of young children, and explores strategies to improve health literacy of parents of young children on this basis. The study found that:(1)In the health knowledge and concept dimension, disease prevention and dietary nutrition scores are more optimistic, safety and first aid indicators still have room for improvement, and mental health, social interaction and adaptation indicators scores are not optimistic;(2)In the healthy lifestyle and behavior dimension, parents of young children have better implementation of safety and protection behaviors, living and hygiene habits still needed improvement, and emotional regulation and handling behaviors needed improvement;(3)In the health skills dimension, parents of young children have better communication,decision-making,and health information application skills, but insufficient ability to obtain and evaluate health information. The results of the study showed that the overall health literacy of parents of young children was at a medium level, and the health literacy of urban parents of young children was higher than that of rural parents of young children, and the higher the level of education and income of parents of young children, the lower the health literacy level of people at both ends of the age spectrum. The main problems of health literacy among parents of young children include(1)Better health concept, insufficient knowledge base;(2)Healthy lifestyles and behaviors to be improved, neglecting the influence of their own behaviors on young children;and(3)Uneven development of health skills. The emergence of these problems is closely related to the parents of young children themselves and the kindergarten and social support factors. Finally, based on the above problems and the analysis of the factors influencing the health literacy of parents of young children, suggestions are made to improve the health literacy of parents of young children from four aspects: national coordination and leadership, strengthening the main responsibility of kindergartens, multiple organizations’ respective responsibilities, and parents’ independent improvement.
