In China,education-related topics have always been one of the focal points of concern for the whole society.Among them, campus violence has attracted much attention in recent years because of the special status of the parties involved and the harmful effects of the incidents.Exploring the reasons behind the occurrence of campus violence and proposing effective prevention and management solutions for campus violence have become issues of general concern and consideration for the whole society. As the main source of information for the public, the media’s content and reporting methods have an impact on the audience’s understanding and perception of campus violence-related information and processes. In addition, the media,as a social instrument, actively assumes social responsibility, guiding the public to pay attention to campus violence and reflect on its problems through agenda setting, and to a certain extent, supervising the development of the incident, providing advice for the resolution of the incident, regulating the potential social conflicts behind the incident, and maintaining the stability of public opinion and social public order. The official media, because of its authority and impartiality, and to a certain extent representing the official attitude, should play an active role in the process of reporting on campus violence. The paper takes the reports related to campus violence in People’s Daily during the 20 years from 2001 to 2021 as the research object, and analyzes their contents and texts by applying the framework theory, while drawing on the theory of relief journalism to explore the practical significance of the relevant reports. The article is divided into five sections. The introductory section introduces the background and significance of this article, defines some basic concepts, and gives a brief overview of the theoretical foundations used and the research results of previous scholars. The first part of the main paper explores the characteristics and tendencies of the reports on campus violence in People’s Daily from three perspectives: content framework, textual framework and thematic framework. In the second part, the role and function of the People’s Daily in reporting on campus violence is positioned in the light of the theory of journalism of relief, and its advantages and beneficial effects are analyzed. The third part attempts to explore the shortcomings of the People’s Daily’s reports on campus violence-related events and analyzes the possible reasons for them. The fourth part explores the future development strategies of campus violence reporting under the perspective of relief journalism.Through statistics and analysis of the campus violence reports in People’s Daily, the thesis finds that it has always adhered to the attitude of impartiality, objectivity and fidelity to facts in its reports on campus violence, and has played a positive and effective role in disseminating information related to campus violence, promoting correct ideology, spreading relevant policies and regulations and putting forward constructive suggestions to the public. However,at the same time, there are still problems that need to be solved, such as single form of reporting, insufficient follow-up reports, inadequate analysis of causes, and weak measures and programs. The article concludes with a discussion of strategies for reporting campus violence from multiple perspectives in conjunction with the concept of relief journalism,in the hope of providing the media with ideas to draw on for such reporting.
