Research background: Under the background that gender temperament in contemporary society has tended to be diversified,it is particularly important for college students to recognize gender roles. In 2020,the Standing Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC)submitted a proposal on Concerning and Preventing the Trend of Feminization of Male Youth. With the release of the reply letter from the Ministry of Education, the "masculinity" and its related research have quickly become a social hotspot, which has aroused extensive research, but most of them are theoretical discussions, and there are relatively few relevant empirical studies.Research objects and methods: This paper mainly uses questionnaires, mathematical statistics and other research methods.Taking the freshmen, sophomores and juniors of Yunnan University,Yunnan Normal University and Kunming University of Science and Technology as the respondents, this paper applies cluster sampling and takes 1,053 valid samples of the students.Cross-table chi-square test and disorderly multi-classification logistic regression are also applied to explore the factors affecting gender roles and their influence rates. The aim is to explore the relationship among sports activities, gender roles and personality as the third variable.Results:1.Among the investigated college students,9.8% are masculine,15.7% are feminine,52.6% are androgynous and 21.9% are undifferentiated.2.The cross-table chi-square test of sports activities and gender roles found significant differences between gender(P=0.000),sport items(P=0.000),average duration(P=0.000),frequency of exercise(P=0.001),intensity of exercise(P=0.000)and participation mode(P=0.000)and gender roles.3.With the undifferentiated gender role as the control, generalized logistic regression was conducted with the six factors in sport activities as independent variables. The results of the three models showed that when α=0.05,the four variables, namely gender, sports items, intensity of exercise and participation mode, they all had significant effects on gender roles.4.The extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness and sense of responsibility of the Big Five Personality are greatly correlated with gender, sports items, frequency of exercise, intensity of exercise, ways of participation and gender roles, but not that great with neuroticism;Extroversion, openness to experience and sense of responsibility of the Big Five are significantly correlated with average duration, but not with neuroticism and agreeableness.Conclusion:1.The uneven distribution of gender roles among college students, with androgyny accounting for more than half, implies that the phenomenon of male feminization and female masculinity of college students in Kunming is not so serious;Compared with domestic and foreign studies, androgyny has increased while undifferentiated has decreased, indicating that the distribution of gender roles among college students is now more reasonable compared with previous studies.2.Sports events include running, basketball, badminton and table tennis. The average duration of each exercise is more than 90 minutes, the frequency of exercise is five times or more a week, and the exercise intensity is greater. Those who like to exercise with their peers are more likely to create bisexual gender roles.3.The Big Five Personality is partly related to sports activities and gender roles. It is speculated that personality plays a moderating or mediating role in sports activities and gender roles. |
