| The ageing of China’s population is becoming increasingly serious, and the choice and transformation of social elderly care service models are receiving increasing attention from all sectors of society.Institutional elderly care is an important form of social elderly care in China, and after years of development,it has become mature in terms of scale and service quality. As a direct provider of elderly care services, elderly caregivers are also receiving more and more attention. In practice, elderly care workers face many difficulties such as long working hours, heavy workload and low overall welfare level, which makes the professional identity of elderly care workers low and further causes problems such as low mood and high work pressure, which adversely affects the professional status of elderly care workers;and as a service provider of elderly care institutions, the level of professional identity of elderly care workers This is particularly important for the overall development of the elderly care institution industry. In this study,we analyse the daily working conditions of elderly care workers in J elderly care institution in Changchun, and investigate the professional identity of elderly care workers. We find that the problems affecting the professional identity of elderly care workers are mainly reflected in three aspects: backward ideology and inferiority complex;lack of career planning and low professional identity;low social recognition and lack of social identity. These three aspects have led to a low level of professional identity among elderly care workers for a long time, and have continuously affected the quality of work of elderly care workers. This study explores the ways in which social workers can intervene to enhance the professional identity of elderly care workers, with the support of the empowerment theory and the dominant perspective theory,in order to understand the needs and problems of elderly care workers and help them to improve their work stress.A good sense of professional identity can motivate elderly caregivers to work, which in turn can facilitate the caregivers to improve the quality of care services.Lack of professional identity is significantly associated with job burnout and high propensity to leave the workforce. This study expects to intervene from the perspective of social workers to improve their sense of professional identity and explore new ways to solve the problem of building a team of elderly caregivers through the implementation of social work practice activities. The social worker intervention was designed as a holistic project, using eight elderly care workers from J elderly care institution in Changchun as the case-makers,and group work as the main intervention method. The study proved that social worker intervention is a more desirable solution. In the process of social work intervention for elderly care workers, different directions, different times and different degrees of social work intervention can be chosen, which will bring obvious changes to the professional psychology of elderly care workers, rebuild their confidence in their professional development and activate the driving force for the progress of the industry as a whole.Based on the results of the above study, four suggestions are made on how to enhance the professional identity of elderly care workers: strengthen business training to improve the professional awareness of elderly care workers;strengthen the construction of corporate system to improve the professional competence of elderly care workers;improve the social security system to improve the professional growth expectation of elderly care workers;and strengthen positive social opinion propaganda to improve the professional value attribution of elderly care workers. |
