Humans have entered the era of digital economy.With the penetration of information technology into daily production and life,the digital economy has become an important component of the national economy.On the one hand,the rapidity of the digital economy has prompted information interaction to break through time and space constraints,easing market information asymmetry.On the other hand,the digital economy has permeability.Through the deep penetration of digital technology into the real economy,the process of industrial digitization and digital industrialization is constantly advancing,promoting consumption and industrial upgrading,and driving the progress and development of social productivity.In addition,the positive externalities of the digital economy will also react on digital technology,promoting the technological innovation and development of society,continuously improving the level of digital public services,and effectively improving social production relations.On December 12,2021,the State Council issued the "14th Five Year Plan" for the Development of the Digital Economy,emphasizing the strategic importance of the development of the digital economy,pointing out its efficiency in allocating resources and its important role in adjusting the economic structure.The plan believes that the digital economy has changed the development pattern of the world economy and is a strategic opportunity that needs to be grasped urgently.The 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China also highlighted the close connection and important position between building a digital China and improving productivity.In this context,measuring China’s digital economy index and exploring its correlation with productivity are conducive to new drivers of national development and achieving the development of economic efficiency.In order to explore the development level of China’s digital economy and its correlation with productivity,the research ideas of the thesis are as follows: Firstly,review relevant theories and literature,define the connotation of the digital economy based on theoretical analysis,refine basic characteristics,elaborate the correlation between the digital economy and productivity,and propose research hypotheses.Secondly,180 sample data from 30 provinces except Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan,and Tibet from 2015 to 2020 were selected for research.Referring to the principal component index construction method,China’s digital economy index was calculated based on the previous theoretical analysis and divided into digital base,digital consumption,digital production,and digital services,and its typical characteristics were explored based on the overall situation,regional development,and four-dimensional development;subsequently,using the DEA to measure productivity,considering that technology directly affects the production efficiency,we comprehensively examine the relationship between the digital economy and productivity at two levels: DEA production efficiency and Malmquist TFP.In addition,the relationship between digital production,digital consumption,and productivity development is empirically tested from the perspectives of the rate of change in technological progress,and the rate of change in technological efficiency.Finally,the thesis will provide research conclusions and suggestions.The main conclusions of the thesis are as follows: First,during 2015-2020,the overall performance of the digital economy index showed a fluctuating upward trend,reaching a peak in 2019.The regional digital divide is obvious and there is an uncoordinated phenomenon,presenting a pattern of eastern >western >central.Secondly,compared to the digital economy index,the digital base shows a key position,consistent with its fluctuations;the digital production scores are high.Subsequently,the four dimensions of the eastern digital economy were far ahead of the central and western regions.The scores of digital infrastructure and digital services in the western region are higher than those in the central region,while the scores of digital consumption and digital production are lower than those in the central region.Finally,there is a significant positive linear correlation between the national,eastern,central,and western digital economic indicators,DEA production efficiency,and TFP change rate,and this correlation mainly stems from the correlation between regional digital economic development and pure technical efficiency,and the change rate of technical efficiency.Based on the research conclusions,the thesis provides relevant suggestions: build and improve digital infrastructure construction,optimize the structure of digital consumption and production,promote the in-depth implementation of the regional development strategy,give full play to the role of new drivers of productivity growth,promote productivity in different regions,and promote economic development.
