In the increasingly serious situation of population aging, physical exercise has become an important way to realize the strategy of "healthy aging".Physical exercise for the elderly have been paid more and more attention from the state and society. What is the current situation of physical exercise among the elderly? What are the influencing factors of physical exercise for the elderly? What is the relationship between physical exercise and health of the elderly? The answers to these questions are of great significance to the promotion of physical activity among the elderly. To this end,the study used data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(CLHLS),used the Anderson Behavioural Model as a guide, and introduced an innovative variable of "years of regular exercise".Through descriptive analysis, the study presented the current regular exercise situation of older people.Based on the endogenous relationship between exercise and health, the study analyzed the factors influencing regular physical activity among the elderly and explored the relationship between regular physical activity and health of older people through Probit regression and other methods. It was found that: Firstly, the current status of physical exercise among the elderly is worrying, with a participation rate of only 27.09% and a decreasing trend. The average age of starting regular exercise among the elderly is 53.57 years, and the average number of years of regular exercise is26.58 years, and they have not yet developed the habit of exercising throughout their life cycle.Secondly, predisposing, enabling and need are all related to regular physical activity among older adults.Various factors such as current residence, education, and self-rated health are related to regular physical activity among older adults.Thirdly, there is an endogenous relationship between regular exercise participation and health in the elderly. After addressing endogenous issues, physical exercise is important for older people’s self-rated health, physical health and mental health, and the significance of long-term physical exercise for the mental health of the elderly is more prominent. After 30 years of regular exercise, there is a "jump" in the effect of physical activity on improving the mental health of older adults.Based on the above findings, this study proposes three recommendations:(1)To pay attention to the problem of declining exercise participation rate and comprehensively promote exercise participation among the elderly;(2)To strengthen personalized guidance for key groups and target to enhance physical exercise participation;(3)To publicize the multidimensional benefits of exercise and promote exercise throughout the life cycle.
