Along with the rapid development of China’s economy and the advent of the Industry 4.0 era,a large number of highly skilled talents are needed in the field of intelligent manufacturing.And the skills competition not only reflects the cutting-edge technology of corporate positions,but is also an important platform to further improve students’ professionalism and expertise.However,due to the regulations of the skills competition,the number of participants from each institution is limited,making it impossible for schools to train a large number of high-quality talents at the same time.Therefore,this paper integrates the competition standards of the skills competition with the curriculum content,and incorporates the concept of "promoting learning through competition,teaching through competition and reform through competition" into teaching,so as to cultivate more highly skilled talents.Firstly,this study takes the National Vocational Colleges and Universities Skills Competition as the basis and the PLC technology and application course for secondary school students as the research reference to understand the dynamics of the skills competition at home and abroad to promote the development of the course teaching,and to define the concepts involved with the relevant theoretical basis as the guide.Secondly,after investigation and interviews with secondary school students,teachers and enterprise personnel,we understand the shortcomings in the teaching process of PLC course for secondary school students and propose corresponding solutions.Again,based on the relevance of the content of the skills competition and the PLC course,as well as the analysis of the survey results,the four aspects of the course teaching objectives,content,process and assessment and evaluation are studied and designed,and the teaching objectives are restructured with the purpose of the competition as the guide;the teaching content is integrated with the content of the competition as the basis;the teaching process is designed with the project of the competition as the carrier;and the teaching evaluation is optimised with the assessment of the competition as the standard.Thus,a teaching mode of PLC course for secondary school based on the skills competition is established.Finally,the teaching mode of "integration of competition courses" is applied to the teaching of PLC technology and application in the secondary level,and a one-semester comparison is made between the experimental class and the control class.After the teaching practice was completed,the academic performance of the experimental class was significantly better than that of the control class.Interviews and surveys with students and lecturers revealed that students’ knowledge and skills were improved to a certain extent,their overall ability was significantly enhanced,the teaching methods followed the characteristics of students’ physical and mental development,and the teaching effect met expectations.The teaching methods followed the students’ physical and mental development characteristics and the teaching results were in line with expectations.While the students’ knowledge and abilities were improved,the teaching level of the instructors was also improved.Therefore,the teaching mode of the secondary PLC technology and application course based on the skills competition can cultivate high-quality skilled talents for society that meet the needs of the times.
