In recent years, with the deepening economic and cultural exchanges between China and Thailand, the Chinese education industry in Thailand has developed vigorously. This situation has put forward higher requirements for Thai students’ Chinese learning. Therefore, this paper takes the author’s Chinese teaching practice at Anubanphibunwas Primary School in Bangkok,Thailand as an opportunity, and uses a combined method of literature review and teaching practice to explore the application of the theme-based teaching mode in the Chinese classroom of this primary school. After ten months of teaching practice, based on the changes in students’ grades and questionnaire surveys, the actual application effect of this mode was discussed. The purpose of this study is to provide inspiration and help for Chinese teachers working in Thai primary schools and Confucius Institutes. The article consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 analyzes relevant literature, outlines the research topic and significance, and presents a review of research methods.Chapter 2establishes the theoretical basis of the thematic teaching approach through a review of literature on humanistic, constructivist, and multiple intelligence learning theories. The chapter defines the approach and its characteristics.Chapter 3 explores the teaching situation at Bangkok Anubanphibunwas School, including teaching resources, subjects, and students, and provides conclusions at the school, curriculum, teacher, and student levels, which serve as the basis for the feasibility and necessity of using the thematic teaching approach at the school.Chapter 4 designs the teaching plan for thematic teaching according to different curriculum requirements for grades one to three and provides detailed teaching cases for themes such as "Greetings," "Numbers," and "Mid-Autumn Festival." Chapter 5evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of the approach using changes in student performance and a randomized survey, and analyzes the results of the survey with reliability analysis. Finally, the author provides six comprehensive recommendations for Chinese teacher volunteers in Thailand based on the findings. The research results indicate that the thematic teaching approach has a positive impact on Mandarin Chinese language learning in Thai primary schools by improving students’ interest, communication skills, and cognitive levels. This approach is worth promoting and should be used more widely in practical teaching to promote the development of international Chinese education.
