| Teacher professional competency is one of the most important competencies in teacher professional growth and teacher professional development,and it is also an important factor affecting student growth and development.In primary education,the gender imbalance of teachers is obvious,and the proportion of full-time male teachers in elementary school is relatively low,but male teachers have an important role in the construction of the teaching force and the growth of students,and have an important impact on students’ physical and mental health,role formation,gender behavior and healthy personality growth.What is the current situation of professional competence of male teachers in elementary schools?What are the factors that affect their professional competence?What are the strategies to improve the professional competency of male elementary school teachers?These are the main contents of this study.In this paper,we used literature analysis,questionnaires and interviews to focus on two dimensions of teachers’ professional competencies:classroom teaching competency and classroom management competency,and combined qualitative and quantitative research.First,the literature on elementary school teachers’ professional competency was sorted out through literature analysis to understand the connotation of elementary school teachers’ professional competency,then the initial questionnaire was prepared,and a pretest questionnaire was formed after a small-scale administration,and after the data analysis of the pretest questionnaire,the questionnaire was modified,and finally the Questionnaire on Professional Competency of Primary School Male Teachers in Fujian Province was prepared.Secondly,on the basis of the collected questionnaires,further data were collected on the current situation and factors influencing the professional competency of junior male elementary school teachers through the interview method,and after analyzing the questionnaire data and interview data,it was found that:(1)the professional competency of junior male elementary school teachers in Fujian Province is at the middle to upper level;(2)the demographic variables are different from the professional competency of junior male elementary school teachers in Fujian Province;(3)the professional competency of junior male elementary school teachers in Fujian Province is not only related to the teachers’ own motivation and self-efficacy,but also related to the current teacher training system,teacher education and related policies.After combining questionnaire data analysis and interview data combing,it was found that the factors affecting the professional competence of junior male elementary school teachers in Fujian Province are:1.junior male teachers’ low self-efficacy;2.limitations in teaching and learning activities;3.large non-teaching tasks;4.teachers’weak awareness of teaching and research;5.poorly targeted pre-service teacher training;6.mismatch between university teacher education and professional Mismatch between teacher education and career needs;7.Policy shortcomings lead to insufficient motivation for learning.On the basis of sorting out the factors affecting the career competence of male elementary school teachers in Fujian Province,the strategies to improve the career competence of male elementary school teachers were proposed in a targeted manner,which were based on improving teachers’ self-efficacy,enhancing teachers’ awareness of teaching and research,creating opportunities for teachers to exchange and learn from each other,enhancing professional identity,improving pre-service training methods,optimizing teacher education and training programs,improving employment mechanisms and current The aim of this study is to improve the professional development and educational management of elementary school teachers in Fujian Province from the perspective of teachers’ professional competency. |
