Scientific inquiry is the process of discovering and solving problems about nature, understanding the processes and activities of nature. The process of obtaining factual evidence based on experiments to form explanations and solve problems related to nature is called experimental inquiry. The exploratory ability displayed in this process is called experimental inquiry ability, which is a specific manifestation of scientific inquiry ability.Influenced by the specific visualization of children’s thinking, cognitive characteristics, and empirical characteristics of scientific disciplines, experimental inquiry ability is one of the important forms of scientific inquiry ability in early childhood.Although the key goal of "having preliminary inquiry ability" was clearly stated in the "Guidelines for the Learning and Development of Children Aged3-6" issued in 2012,influenced by the complexity of scientific inquiry ability and the traditional scientific outlook of relevant educators, literature research results show that there is still much room for research on children’s inquiry ability in China, especially the lack of science in the evaluation of children’s inquiry ability Specific and operable evaluation index system. Therefore, based on the above considerations, this study focuses on the construction of an evaluation index system for children’s experimental inquiry ability.Main research process: Firstly, based on the basic element analysis method, national and international evaluation project framework analysis, and developmental education evaluation theory, and guided by basic principles such as directionality, the initial version of the evaluation index system for early childhood experimental exploration ability was constructed through literature research method.Secondly, the initial version was revised and improved based on two rounds of expert consultation of Delphi method.Thirdly, the items, validity and reliability of the evaluation index system are tested by critical ratio method, total correlation method, factor analysis method and Cronbach’s alpha. Then, the Analytic Hierarchy Process was used to determine the weights of indicators at all levels. Finally, discuss and analyze the content of evaluation indicators and other issues, draw research conclusions, and propose the shortcomings of this study and future research prospects through reflection.Main research conclusions:1.The initial version of the evaluation index system for children’s experimental inquiry ability has 8 first level indicators and 29 second level indicators. Two second level indicators were deleted by the Delphi method and some statements were modified and improved.Through testing, the data results show that the index system has good reliability and validity. Finally,a scientific, developmental, and innovative evaluation index system for children’s experimental exploration ability was established, including 8 primary indicators, including problem-solving ability, guessing ability, ability to formulate experimental plans, experimental implementation ability, ability to collect and record information, ability to draw conclusions, cooperation ability, and communication ability,as well as 27 secondary indicators, including problem awareness.2.The weights of indicators at all levels are determined based on the analytic hierarchy process, among which the weights of eight first-level indicators are as follows: the ability to raise questions accounts for 0.1357;Guessing ability accounts for 0.1315;The ability to formulate experimental plans accounts for 0.1148;The ability to carry out experiments accounts for 0.1253;The ability to collect and record information accounts for 0.1315;The ability to draw conclusions accounts for 0.1169;Cooperation capacity accounts for 0.1169;Communication capacity accounts for0.1274.
