In recent years,exploring a new path for the construction of preschool education professional laboratories has become a key research field in Chinese universities.Building a high-level preschool education laboratory is conducive to cultivating preschool education professionals and promoting the discipline construction of preschool education.The Kent State University Center for Child Development is a model for the construction of specialized laboratories in preschool education in the United States.Since its establishment in 1972,it has achieved remarkable results in academic research,teacher training,and social services.Objectively drawing on the construction experience of the Kent State University Children’s Development Center is beneficial for optimizing the path of constructing preschool education specialized laboratories in Chinese universities.This study mainly adopts comparative research,literature research,and case study methods to discuss the establishment background and theoretical basis of the Kent State University Child Development Center,explore the functional positioning of the Kent State University Child Development Center,and focus on the core elements of the Kent State University Child Development Center.The research found that the Child Development Center of Kent State University has derived three main functions: "academic research","teacher training",and "social service" based on social constructivist theory and progressive educational ideas.Scientific management measures,complete curriculum systems,rigorous scientific research procedures,and diverse funding channels are the core elements that support the efficient operation of the Kent State University Children’s Development Center.By summarizing the characteristics of the Child Development Center of Kent State University and comparing the preschool education professional laboratories in China’s universities,it is found that there are currently problems in the preschool education professional laboratories in China’s universities,such as insufficient functional diversity,ignoring the cultivation of students’ scientific research ability,non-standard and imprecise experimental research,imperfect resource sharing mechanisms,and single funding sources.Through in-depth research into the Child Development Center of Kent State University,we hope to find a good solution to the current problem of preschool education professional laboratories in China’s universities.The research results indicate that universities in China can build high-quality preschool education specialized laboratories through the following paths: improving the functions of preschool education specialized laboratories,exerting the role of preschool education specialized laboratories in cultivating scientific research talents,improving the scientificity and rigor of preschool education specialized laboratory research,establishing a resource sharing mechanism for preschool education specialized laboratories,and expanding funding channels for preschool education specialized laboratories.
