Chemistry is an experiment-based science.In the process of learning chemistry,almost every class does some chemical experiments.However,whether chemical experiments can be carried out smoothly is closely related to the construction and management of laboratories.Therefore,in experimental teaching,the importance of the construction and management of chemical laboratories has been fully recognized,and it has become an important indicator to measure the level of chemical education reform and education development in middle schools.The “Standard for Ordinary Senior High School Chemistry C urriculum” promulgated in 2003 proposes that “Through experimental exploration activities,students should be able to master basic chemistry experimental skills,experience the process of experimental exploration,and recognize the important role of experiments in chemical scientific research and chemistry learning,and improve the ability of conducting chemical e xperiments.” In 2009,the Ministry of Education's “Laboratory Regulations for Primary and Secondary Schools ” emphasized the need to focus on basic experimental skills training,improve the management of laboratory construction in secondary schools,and promote the standardization,scientification,and modernization of laboratory construction and management in middle schools.In 2011,the “Basic Allocation Standards for Teaching Equipment for Compulsory Education Schools in Chongqing Municipality” issued by the C hongqing Municipal Ed ucation Commission mentioned that we need to pay attention to the differences between urban and rural areas and the balanced development of schools in the region,explore the experimental teaching model according to the needs of curriculum reform and teaching,and optimize resource al ocation and show resource sharing.Based on relevant literature research,this paper uses the methods of questionnaire survey,interviews,and on-site observations to investigate the current situation of the construction and management of eight rural middle school chemistry labs in C hongqing.The survey shows that the current construction of rural middle school chemistry labs in Chongqing is relatively good,the government has invested sufficient funds,and the compliance rate is high.However,there still exist some problems:(1)A small number of school laboratories lack in size and quantity;(2)Some of the hardware facilities are not up to standard;(3)Some experimental drugs and equipment are not reasonable;(4)Video experiments are used too frequently while practical experiments in laboratories are not paid enough attention;(5)The overall level of experimental administrators is uneven;(6)The utilization rate of laboratories and the opening rate of experiments are low.According to the existing problems,several corresponding suggestions are proposed:(1)Expand rural middle school laboratories and improve substandard items;(2)Increase the participation of rural middle school chemistry teachers and experiment administrators,and reasonably purchase and equip chemical instruments and medicines;3)Improve the importance attached to the laboratory and implement chemical experiment teaching;(4)Strengthen the training of rural middle school chemistry teachers and experiment administrators to meet experimental teaching needs;(5)Strengthen inquiry teaching,ensure the establishment of group experiments,and increase laboratory utilization;(6)Establish long-term effective supervision mechanism,and improve chemical experiment assessment standards;(7)Strengthen the information management of chemical laboratory.
