From Neighbor To Family:Dynamic Process And Value Realization Of Continuous Service Of Community Youth Volunteers

Under the background of adhering to and improving the system of co-construction,co-governance and sharing of social governance,community voluntary service,as an important content of grassroots governance,has been widely concerned by the society.Community voluntary service not only relieves the pressure of grassroots community workers,but also promotes the participation of residents in community public affairs,becoming an important embodiment of the improvement of grassroots social governance level.However,there are still problems of high volunteer turnover rate and weak service continuity,which affect the high quality development of community volunteer service.To promote the continuous participation of community volunteers and establish a stable and efficient community volunteer team is of great significance for improving the quality of community volunteer service and promoting the development of grassroots governance model.Through the investigation of four communities in Wuhan,it is found that the number of volunteers who continue to serve the community is small,and from the perspective of age distribution,they are mainly young volunteers.To reflect on this phenomenon,this paper takes 13 young volunteers who continue to serve as research objects,collects research data through in-depth interviews,and makes a holistic and dynamic analysis of the process of volunteers’ continuous service.It is found that the continuous service process of community youth volunteers is actually a process of changing their attitude towards the community from Neighbor to Family.From the perspective of the Volunteer Process Model,the process of community youth volunteers’ participation can be divided into three stages: antecedents,experience and consequence.In the antecedents stage,volunteers believe that they only have a spatial relationship with the community,and they know little about community affairs.They contact and participate in community voluntary service activities under the support of specific opportunities and relevant favorable conditions.Motivation,personal resources and the role of community environment are the main factors influencing their contact and participation in volunteer service activities at this stage.In the experience stage,volunteers gradually establish a connection with the community through volunteering activities,obtain positive feedback from the service objects,families and communities,feel the satisfaction of their own needs and the realization of their personal value,and achieve the effect of being good to the neighbors.Thus,they form a positive cognition of volunteer service and can continue to participate in volunteer service activities.Therefore,at this stage,the satisfaction of motivation,the improvement of personal resources and the support of the community are the promotion factors for volunteers to continue to participate in voluntary services.In the consequence stage,after long-term participation in community volunteer service,volunteers gain rich personal experience in the service process,form a high recognition of volunteerism,and regard volunteer service as an indispensable part of their life,thus forming a more favorable atmosphere for the development of volunteer service in the community.Volunteers truly see the community as their family and are willing to contribute to the community through continuous participation in community volunteering.Through continuous volunteer service,volunteers not only fully embody their personal value,but also make the value of volunteer service more widely transmitted in the community,and promote the formation of long-term mechanism of community volunteer service.Based on the above research conclusion,this article aims at the problems existing in the present community volunteer service,proposes suggestions on the development of Chinese community volunteer service,aims at promoting the development innovation of grassroots governance model.
