Adolescence is a period of high incidence of non-suicidal self injury(NSSI),and it is increasing year by year.However,the process(mediating mechanism)of parenting style affecting NSSI of secondary vocational school students and when it affects NSSI of secondary vocational students(regulating mechanism)remain unclear.Based on the self-determination theory and the interaction between individuals and environment,this study aims to explore the mediating role of basic psychological needs satisfaction in the relationship between parenting style and NSSI of secondary vocational students,as well as the moderating role of self-control.In this study,1513 students from a secondary vocational in Shanwei city were used as subjects(793 boys and 720 girls,average age 16.08 years old,SD = 0.96).The questionnaire method,correlation analysis,mediation effect test and other method were used to examine the relationship among parenting style,basic psychological needs satisfaction,self-control and NSSI.SPSS26.0 software was used for data processing.The following conclusions were obtained:(1)Basic psychological needs satisfaction has a partial mediating role in the relationship between Parents’ over-protection and NSSI.Autonomy and Relatedness plays a partial mediating role between Parents’ denial/Parents’ emotional warmth and NSSI;(2)The mediating effect of Autonomy needs satisfaction in the association between Parents’ denial and NSSI is moderated by self-control.It also moderated the indirect link between Parents’ over-protection/Parents’ emotional warmth and NSSI through Autonomy needs satisfaction;(3)Self-control can moderate the relationship between Parents’ denial/Parents’ over-protection/Parents’ emotional warmth and Competence needs satisfaction;(4)The mediating effect of Relatedness needs satisfaction in the association between Parents’ denial/Parents’ emotional warmth and NSSI is moderated by self-control.Moreover,the indirect link of parenting style to affect NSSI by satisfying basic psychological needs satisfaction in secondary vocational students with low self-control,but not in secondary vocational students with high self-control.The findings of this study indicate that basic psychological needs satisfaction is the mediating mechanism of parenting style and NSSI of secondary vocational students,and self-control helps to cushion this risk effect.Therefore,appropriate parenting style,satisfying psychological needs and enhancing self-control in secondary vocational students may can help prevent and control NSSI risk in secondary vocational students...
