As the times have changed,so have the different musical mediums that young children are exposed to,and these external factors are bound to have some impact on children’s musical perceptions and preferences.Pop music is an art form closely associated with the general population, and listening to and singing pop music has become a way of life for young children to some extent.A study of children’s musical preferences can provide a deeper understanding of their intrinsic aesthetic world, thus reflecting the significance of "valuing young children’s experiences" in music education. This study analyzes the current situation, characteristics and causes of music preference of older children through a questionnaire survey and a music preference test, combined with music teaching and life practice activities, and explores ways to effectively promote the development of older children in music activities and actively bring out their temperamental strengths and characteristics. The results of the study revealed that: 1.the music preferences of the older children were aggressive, pleasant, calm, and sad in descending order, and the preference for pop music was generally higher than that for classical music.2.the preference for aggressive, calm, and pleasant music was higher and consistent among the five temperament types.3.there was a correlation between the temperament types and music preferences of the older children.Among them, active children were negatively correlated with sad style music preference and positively correlated with aggressive music;focused children were positively correlated with sad music;balanced children were negatively correlated with aggressive music;and inhibited children were negatively correlated with pleasurable and aggressive music. The interviews revealed that the children’s choice of music was mainly based on the rhythm of music and their subjective feelings about music. It is closely related to musical experience, life experience, and aesthetic experience.Young children need to express their inner feelings and vent their emotions through music, and music can bring appropriate external stimuli for individuals to regulate their behavior and make them better adapt to the current environment. For these reasons, when conducting music activities, teachers should take appropriate educational measures for young children’s temperament, choose suitable and diverse musical works, create a good musical environment, and continuously improve their own musical literacy.
