According to the author’s experience and observation in teaching,based on some interviews and questionnaires from the students,there comes theconclusion that the textbooks conflict with the students’ music preference. Moststudents enjoy music and can appreciate it well, but the works in the textbooks can’tattract the students attention.In this essay, basing on some interviews and questionnaires, the students’approach to music, the way of appreciating, the expression or the style of the musicand so on will be presented. Besides,according to the author’s analyses of the teachingcontents, the reasons for these conflicts between the students and the context will alsobe referred to, such as the social circumstances, the students themselves,the teachingmethods etc..Based on the present situations, some feasible solutions or will be presented inthis essay,covering the students’ awareness,teaching methods and teaching materials.First, for the students, to renew the concept and raise the awareness of music andform a good attitude to music appreciation.Second, for teachers and teaching methods:1)to improve the teaching methodsand arouse the students interest in music;2)to reconstruct the contents of thetextbooks;3)to inspire the students to learn autonomously.Last, for the teaching materials, teachers should choose more popular works oreven some new materials agreeing with the students’ requirements if possible.
