The functional training theory has a wide variety of training methods and techniques,a complete training system,and has gradually expanded from the field of competitive sports to the fields of school sports and public fitness,all of which have achieved good results.Elementary school recess physical activities are the forefront of physical exercise for elementary school students,but the content and form are relatively simple,and currently,the physical health of elementary school students needs to be improved urgently.Therefore,it is particularly important to enrich and improve the content and form of elementary school recess physical activities,improve physical fitness,and enhance students’ physical health.This study,from the perspective of functional training theory,based on the growth and development characteristics of elementary school students and the actual situation of school physical education,designs a scientific and reasonable physical activity program for elementary school recess,providing reference for innovation and practice of elementary school recess physical activities.Based on the functional training theory,this study explores the innovation and practice of elementary school recess physical activities using literature research,interviews,questionnaires,experiments,and mathematical statistics.From September to December 2022,120 healthy students in grades 5 and 6 from Qidi Foreign Language School in Qidong,Nantong city were randomly selected as experimental subjects,with60 boys and 60 girls.They were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group,with 60 students in each group,including 30 boys and 30 girls.Since 10-13 years old is a sensitive period for physical development of elementary school students,and there are physiological differences between boys and girls,in order to obtain more accurate experimental results,boys and girls were compared separately.The experimental group and the control group each underwent 12 weeks of teaching experiments.The control group was trained according to the traditional recess physical activity program,while the experimental group exercised according to the recess physical activity program based on the functional training theory.The amount and frequency of the teaching experiments were kept consistent for both groups.The results of the 50-meter run,sit and reach,one-minute sit-ups,50-meter × 8 shuttle run,and one-minute skipping rope were recorded as test indicators,and all data were accurately recorded before and after the experiment.The results of the 12-week experiment showed that the test scores of the experimental group’s physical fitness had a significant improvement(P < 0.05),while the test scores of the control group’s physical fitness improved but not significantly(P > 0.05).The study results indicate that recess physical activities designed from the perspective of functional training can effectively improve students’ physical fitness.The following conclusions were drawn through the study:(1)The primary school physical education activities in the interval between classes designed based on the theory of functional training can enrich and improve the content and form of primary school physical education activities in the interval between classes,and can be designed and promoted based on the theory of functional training.(2)The primary school physical education activities in the interval between classes designed based on the theory of functional training can effectively improve students’ physical fitness.(3)The primary school physical education activities in the interval between classes designed based on the theory of functional training have more advantages in improving primary school students’ physical fitness than traditional physical education activities in the interval between classes.(4)The primary school physical education activities in the interval between classes designed based on the theory of functional training can better stimulate students’ interest in exercise and improve the effectiveness of exercise.The recommendations are as follows:(1)It is recommended to organize primary school physical education activities in the interval between classes based on the theory of functional training,and enrich and improve the content and form of primary school physical education activities in the interval between classes.(2)It is recommended to strengthen the cultivation of teachers’ comprehensive quality,professional level,and innovation ability,and dare to innovate the content of physical education activities in the interval between classes.(3)It is recommended to design large-scale physical activities in stages according to different levels,and focus on training the relatively weak aspects of the student group.(4)It is recommended to consider gender appropriately when designing physical education activities in the interval between classes based on the theory of functional training and design more scientific physical education activities in the interval between classes.
