The aim of this study is to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of designing an Eight Diagrams Fist(Ba Ji Quan)educational game using the perspective of the metaverse on the Roblox platform.Eight Diagrams Fist is a traditional sport and intangible cultural heritage with profound cultural connotations and educational value,but it is facing the risk of disappearance or decline in today’s era.The metaverse is an emerging virtual reality technology that can provide new avenues and platforms for the inheritance and promotion of traditional intangible cultural heritage in sports.Roblox is a metaverse-based game development and publishing platform that offers a high degree of freedom and interactivity,which can facilitate and support the design and development of educational games.This study adopts the Design-Based Research(DBR)method and is conducted in two iterative cycles of game development and evaluation.DBR is an educational research method based on design,which aims to solve practical problems and generate theoretical knowledge through iterative processes of design,implementation,evaluation,and reflection.In this study,the Roblox platform is used as the game engine and development tool to design an educational game with Eight Diagrams Fist as the theme.Thirty non-specific Roblox users were invited as participants in the research,and two iterations of game testing and evaluation were conducted.This study found that the Eight Diagrams Fist educational game has positive effects on improving students’ skills in Eight Diagrams Fist,moral education,and learning interest.Through the analysis of data from questionnaires,interviews,focus groups,and game logs of the participants,this research discovered significant improvements in participants’ knowledge,skills,attitudes,and behaviors related to Eight Diagrams Fist after playing the game.The participants also highly rated the educational performance and fun of the game,expressed their willingness to continue participating in the game,and recommended it to others.This research demonstrates that the Roblox platform from the perspective of the metaverse is an innovative technology suitable for the inheritance and promotion of traditional intangible cultural heritage in sports and an effective method for designing educational games.It also contributes to the protection and inheritance of traditional intangible cultural heritage in sports from the perspective of the metaverse,and enhances users’ levels of knowledge,interest,skills,and moral values related to Eight Diagrams Fist.This study has theoretical significance and practical value in the fields of protection and inheritance of traditional intangible cultural heritage,development and application of the metaverse in education,and design and development of educational games.
