Materials are the material basis for children’s play, and different outdoor game materials can have different effects on children’s play and learning experiences. As two types of typical outdoor materials, high structural materials and low structural materials, understanding their play in games and children’s learning experience is helpful to give full play to the educational value of game materials, improve the quality of games, and really promote children’s learning and development. In this paper, literature method, observation method and interview method were used to conduct research and analysis, children in senior classes of three public kindergartens were taken as observation objects, observing and recording children’s play in the outdoors, and interviewing teachers’ perceptions and judgements about high and low structured materials and children’s learning experiences. On this basis, the author analyzes and compares the gameplay, learning experience and their similarities and differences in the two materials, and discusses the relationship between the three. The results showed that:(1)teachers’ cognition and judgment of the two materials were similar;(2)There are three types of gameplay in the two materials: single, complex and challenging, but the gameplay in the high structure materials is less than that in the low structure materials;(3)The two kinds of materials cover children’s learning experience in multiple fields, but the low structure materials of children’s learning experience is more rich;(4)Game materials trigger different ways of playing, and different ways of playing influence the acquisition of learning experiences by children, with the teacher being the bridge between the three.Based on the findings of the research, the following recommendations are put forward for teachers:firstly, study the value of game materials and allocate high and low structured materials in a reasonable manner;secondly, return the autonomy of children’s play and stimulate their creativity;thirdly, integrate children’s learning experiences to promote their learning and development;fourthly, play a supportive and guiding role in play to effectively enhance the quality of play.
