| Insisting the strategy of innovation-driven development and enhancing the ability of independent innovation are the key to enhance China’s comprehensive national strength.As an important way to influence regional innovation ability,industrial agglomeration is of great significance for leading urban innovation and achieving highquality economic development.However,there are great difference in innovation ability and industrial agglomeration degree among cities in China at the present stage.Firstly,this paper focuses on industrial agglomeration and urban innovation ability.Based on the data of 266 cities in China from 2009 to 2016,the current situation of specialized,diversified agglomeration and urban innovation ability are calculated and analyzed.Secondly,with the continuous progress of urbanization in China，the flow of population and resources within and between cities has an increasingly obvious impact on the externality of industrial agglomeration.Therefore,this paper constructs the interaction term between industrial agglomeration and urbanization to study the regulating effect of urbanization level on industrial agglomeration.Based on theoretical analysis and tests,this paper uses econometric models including spatial econometric models to empirically analyze the effects of specialized agglomeration,diversified agglomeration and their interaction with urbanization on urban innovation ability.Through the above research,this paper finds that:(1)Both specialized agglomeration and diversified agglomeration have a significant promoting effect on the improvement of urban innovation ability.(2)The effect of industrial agglomeration on city innovation ability is affected by the level of urbanization,the higher the level of urbanization,the more conducive to play the role of industrial agglomeration to promote urban innovation ability.(3)At the present stage,compared with diversified agglomeration,urbanization has a more obvious positive regulating effect on the enhancement of urban innovation ability by specialized agglomeration.(4)Based on the spatial weight matrix of economic distance,the results show that the knowledge spillover generated by industrial agglomeration in surrounding cities helps to improve the innovation ability of the city itself.Based on the above findings,this paper puts forward corresponding policy suggestions on how to promote the coordinated development of industrial agglomeration and urbanization so as to better improve the innovation ability of Chinese cities. |
