| How to optimize the efficiency of resource allocation at the urban level based on the laws of urban size distribution, and achieve benign interaction and co-prosperity between cities and industries,is a core issue in the process of urbanization in China. Therefore, this article starts from the perspective of urban size distribution, using data from 267 prefecture-level cities and above from 2010 to 2019,to explore the impact of urban size distribution deviating from the optimal urban size on urban resource mismatch, investigate the mechanism of industrial specialization and diversification agglomeration, and analyze the forms of co-prosperity and development of different industrial agglomeration models and different levels of urban size. The research finds that:(1)From the overall characteristics of urban size distribution, the current distribution of urban size in China is relatively scattered, that is,the development of small and medium-sized cities in low order is more prominent, and the development of large cities is insufficient; However, the overall trend of urban size distribution is towards centralization, and the trend of centralization is slowing down.(2)The alienation of urban size distribution in China has significantly worsened the resource mismatch at the urban level, and the irrational distribution of urban size mainly results in capital mismatch rather than labor mismatch at the urban level. This conclusion is also applicable to central regions and shrinking cities.(3)From the perspective of resource allocation regions, the resource mismatch among central regions, southern cities, and shrinking cities is more severe, resulting in the "central collapse effect" and "economic differences between the north and the south" in urban and industrial development; From the perspective of resource allocation, when there is excess capital allocation and labor allocation, unreasonable urban scale distribution will exacerbate resource mismatch at the urban level, indicating that excessive investment in factors at the urban level will lead to the transformation of urban economies of scale effects into crowding effects, which is not conducive to the co-prosperity and development of cities and industries; From the perspective of urban agglomeration planning, cities included in urban agglomeration have a greater degree of resource mismatch due to unreasonable urban size distribution.(4)Although unreasonable urban size distribution can cause resource mismatches at the urban level, specialized agglomeration can alleviate this effect.Further analysis shows that large cities are more suitable for diversified agglomeration rather than specialized agglomeration, while small and medium-sized cities are more suitable for specialized agglomeration rather than diversified agglomeration. This article believes that optimizing the distribution of urban size and improving the mismatch of resources in China is an effective way to achieve high-quality urban economic development and coordinated regional development in the new normal period. |
