In recent years,the global economic development has been sluggish,trade protectionism has increased significantly,and profound and drastic changes have taken place in the elevator industry.From the past elevator industry with the vigorous development of the real estate market,the "golden age" dominated by new elevator sales to the background of the slowdown in the growth of the new elevator market,the production capacity of the elevator industry continues to improve.Under this new business situation,how to improve the product competitiveness in order to survive and develop in the fierce competition is a subject that every elevator company has to face.In the elevator industry,Otis has always been the industry leader with deep industry precipitation.However,at present,the development power of the new elevator market is insufficient,and the market competitive pressure continues to increase.At the same time,Otis is also facing market challenges similar to other competitors in the same industry.Facing the new business situation,it is inevitable to enhance the competitiveness to maintain the position of the head company in the elevator industry,and even expand the market share through appropriate strategies in the process of intensified competition.The elevator industry is facing the pressure of customers for cost,the requirements of the market for the speed of product launch,and the needs of customers for personalization and customization.According to the product integration implemented by the existing elevator industry,product management has been difficult to deal with the above challenges.Modular product management in automotive,aviation and other fields has achieved results,with relatively mature cases and experience.Otis is trying to use modularity as a product management tool.It is hoped to simplify the types of parts by means of modularization,reduce the number of part numbers,expand the production scale of parts with the same part number,enjoy the benefits of economies of scale and realize effective cost control;Relying on the universality of modular components and the parallelism of module development,establish a product production line to meet the market demand;Reasonable combination of different types of modularization can obtain diversified products.In this way,products can be customized according to customers’ personalized needs.For mass customization,the biggest feature is low cost and customization,which is mainly realized through the modularization of product design.That is,the product is divided into multiple modules first,and then combined according to different customer needs.It is precisely because of modular production and manufacturing that economies of scale can be realized,and its combination realizes economies of scope.Enhance universality,so as to improve the efficiency of production,installation and maintenance.In this paper,take OTIS electrical product as the sample,introduce the weak point of current product management and its causes.and discuss advantage of modular design.Try to introduce modular design into OTIS elevator product management process,and make efforts and exploration to enhance product competitiveness from the perspective of product management.
