Energy has always played a crucial role in promoting technological progress and industrial structure optimization,but China’s traditional energy structure has problems such as high energy consumption and high pollution.With the energy shortage and the aggravation of environmental problems,carrying out energy transformation to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development has gradually become the focus and difficulty of China’s reform.The development of clean energy is the core of energy transformation,and industry is the largest energy-consuming industry in China.Under the background of energy transformation,the scale of industry must be influenced by the development of clean energy,and it can be said that the development of clean energy is a key demand factor affecting the future long-term direction of China’s industry.To this end,this paper explores the impact of clean energy development on the scale of industry from the perspective of clean energy production,and puts forward relevant policy recommendations.First,by combing the literature studies on energy transition,clean energy and industrial scale,we clarify the mechanism of the impact of clean energy on industrial scale,and analyze the current situation of clean energy development and industrial scale.Second,this paper establishes a fixed-effects panel model by collecting panel data of 31 provinces and municipalities in China from 2006 to 2020 to analyze the impact of clean energy development on industrial scale,and analyzes the heterogeneity in three aspects: geographic location,economic development level and industrial development level.Again,robustness tests were conducted by adopting replacement variables and lagged term treatment to verify the reliability of the results.Finally,the mediating effects of carbon emissions and employment structure were analyzed empirically.The results of the study show that the current development of clean energy in China significantly suppresses the size of industry.From the regional point of view,there is a significant inhibitory effect of clean energy development on industrial scale in the eastern region,but not in the central and western regions;from the economic development level,there is a significant inhibitory effect of clean energy development on industrial scale in economically developed regions,but not in economically developing regions;from the industrial development level,both in industrially developed and industrially developing regions,the There is a significant inhibitory effect of clean energy development on industrial scale in both industrially developed and industrially developing regions.In addition,per capita GDP,urbanization and environmental protection level have significant effects on industrial scale.From the results of the mediation test,there is a mediation effect between carbon emissions and employment structure.Finally,based on the research results,relevant policy recommendations are proposed in terms of optimizing energy structure,promoting clean energy development and industrial transformation and upgrading.The innovation point of this paper is mainly to provide empirical evidence that the development of clean energy can significantly restrain the scale of industrial development,quantitatively show the impact of clean energy development on the scale of industrial development,enrich the research on the influencing factors of industrial development,and expand the perspective of industrial development.Considering the individual differences of the research objects,this paper chooses the provincial level to expand,which enhances the persuasiveness of the research conclusions.
