Yu-Ping-Feng-Powder, a Chinese traditional prescription, is widely applied in China for the cure and prevention of diseases related to immunologic disorder.Pharmacological studies have found that it possesses immunomodulating activities. However, its active component for immunomodulating is not clear. Our aim was to evaluation the immunomodulating activities of a fractioned polysaccharides selected and isolated from Yu-Ping-Feng-Powder and try to find its action mechanism.1. Objective: to isolate and select the active component for the immunomodulating from the decoction of Yu-Ping-Feng-Powder,guided by the pharmacology indicator, using the combination methods of Pharmaceutical chemistry and Pharmacology.Method: the immunosuppressive model induce by Cyclophosphamide (Cy) was made in mice. Splenocyte Proliferation Assay and Quantitative Haemolysis of SRBC (QHS) Assav were used to evaluation the immunomodulating activities of different component form Yu-Ping-Feng-Powder.Results: First, both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble part could improve immunologic function of Cy-treated mice. Then, 3 fractional precipitates were obtained form the water-soluble part, among them precipitates of 50% EtOH having better immunomodulating activities. Conclusion: the precipitates of 50% EtOH may contain the immunomodulating component of the prescription.2. Objective: YPF-P was a fractioned Polysaccharides isolated from the precipitates of 50% EtOH of Yu-Ping-Feng-Powder. The effects of YPF-P on the Cy-treated mice were studied in relation to innate immunity, humoral and cellular immunity parameters. And the effect of YPF-P on the splenic lymphocyte, which as a target cell, was studied in Cy-treated mice DTH model, trying to build up data for clarity of the action mechanism of YPF-P.
