At present, the stepped shaft part is applied to industry, such as the machinery, aviation extensively. Its material, the quality of surface and comprehensive mechanical performance are expected very much. The intensity of the stepped shaft part exerts a tremendous influence to the machine life-span of whole. Its quality influences on its performance of work and service life of the machine directly. However, besides adopting the cross wedge rolling in a few parts, the machining of this kind of part is still adopted traditional machining by cutting at present. To adopt the traditional method has many disadvantages, such as low material utilization ratio, heavy consumption of energy, low productivity, high cost and high intensity of labor, and so on.This paper introduced a new method of metal processing—rolling with tension, which a pulling force is applied to rolling the shaft part at room temperature. The method overcomes most disadvantages, such as preheating the workpiece, low material utilization ratio, great energy consumption and low productivity in other methods. The method makes high-speed process validly the stepped shaft part to become possible at room temperature. At the same time, improves the product quality, simplifies the craft of the production, and thus obtains the various economic benefits. This article has first analyzed the forming rule of the technology of rolling with tension, inferred the processing formulas of rolling condition, the proportion and action force on components contacted area. Then, carried on the confirmation after the massive experiments to it, rolling with tension processing effect has been good. Finally, through the experiments of the stretch, the intensity and the metallography, it has been conducted the analysis to the mechanical and the organizational performance of the test samples. The study indicates that rolling with tension technology may be an advanced craft of metallic plasticity processing.
