This thesis aims to develop a new kind of laser welding equipment of diamond core drill bit. The major components such as Festo pneumatic manipulator, Festo sensors, industrial grade SIEMENS PLC and Panasonic servo motor are used in the equipment. The critical techniques, such as system architecture, precise positioning, time detection and procedures stability have been deeply researched. The main research achievements are shown below:(1) The system architecture of automatic laser welding of diamond bit has been designed. According to specifications and features, the domestic and overseas situation, development trend of the diamond bit, the main parameters which influence laser welding quality have been analysed, especially focusing on the structure and working mechanism of the welding machine and manipulator.(2) The system hardware of automatic welding has been constructed. According to the signal characteristics of electronic control system, the power supply of laser welding, the control and drive interfaces have been designed. The structural features, working principle and system control circuit design of S7-CPU224 PLC, EM223 I/O and its memory have been explored.(3) The system software has been developed. The logic function design, processor algorithm design, data structure design of the CPU and I/O signals, motion control principles of the automatic laser welding system have been discussed. Also, the operator software design and welding procedures have been given.(4) The system design has been optimized through the installation and welding test. This laser welding system of diamond core drill bit can be applied toφ20mm-φ300mm diamond bit at the range of welding speed of 1.0-2.4(m/min). The welding process can automatically run well according to setup of the technical parameters as segment numbers, length of segment, diameter of bit, welding speed and motor multiplicator. Continuous welding or signle-step debugging can be chosen by selecting automatic mode or manual mode. Operator interface has excellent ability to automatically identify faults and rapidly correct mistakes.The automatic laser welding equipment of diamond core drill bit dosen't need the special clamp and conquer the disadvantage of the manual segment-feed. The independent Intellectual Property has been obtained on aspect of integrate innovation for the welding equipment. The German monopoly in the field of diamond laser welding technology has been broken. The research is beneficial to improve the overall domestic manufacturing ability of diamond tools and laser equipment.
