Background:Functional constipation is one kind of common gastrointestinal disease which occurs in up to 4%of the population and particularly 20%in old people.Recent research suggested that physiological and psychological problems often coexist in patients with constipation.The patients often have poor response to the traditional management such as laxatives.In addition to it,the use of laxatives for a long term can lead the increase in side effect of drugs and economical burden of patients and society,which affect the quality of life in people of modern society.There are few report and research on it in China.The purpose of the study is to explore the effects of comprehensive intervention on clinical symptom and quality of life of patients with functional constipation and improve nursing interventions further. Objective:To know the characteristics of the psychological status and quality of life of patients with functional constipation,and establish the effective psychological and behavioral interventions to improve the quality of life of these patients.Materials and Methods:We evaluated 93 patients with functional constipation(33 men,60 women).49(18 men,31 women)of them received more than 6 course comprehensive interventions.1.The survey of clinical symptom,psychological status,and quality of life:a structured questionnaire for clinical evaluation,Zung' self-rating anxiety scales and self-rating depressive scales for psychological status,SF-36 for quality of life were used.The results were recorded to analyses the characteristics of psychological and quality of life of patients,compared to Chinese normal.2.49 patients were received comprehensive interventions including health education,psychological intervention and biofeedback.After accomplishing treatment,assessing clinical symptoms,SAS,SDS,and SF-36 again.Statistics and analyses the parameters before and after interventions. Results:1.The SF-36 scores in all dimensions in FC patients were significantly lower than those in Chinese normal(P<0.01).2.Patients with FC present poor psychological health:The SDS and SAS scores were significantly higher in FC patients than those in Chinese normal(47.5±11.9 vs 37.2±12.6,51.0±9.9 vs 41.9±11.6, P<0.01).3.QOL of patients was associated with anxiety and depression (p<0.01).4.After comprehensive intervention,clinical symptom was greatly improved:12.24%(6/49)of patients were completely cured,46.94% (23/49)of patients were greatly effective,20.40%(10/49)of patients were effective,and the total effective rate was 79.59%.5.After comprehensive intervention,patients with FC improved their quality of life as well as psychological status(P<0.01).Conclusion:Comprehensive intervention can effectively improve not only clinical symptom of patients with functional constipation but also their quality of life and psychological status.
