ObjectiveThe aims of this study were to explore the psychological status and the quality of life(QOL) in patients with cervical cancer;to determine the influential factors in the psychological status and QOL of cervical cancer patients.Methods1.Objects:From 2007 Jan to 2008 Jan,a total of 227 cervical cancer patients were selected in the Hospital of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Hongkou women and children health agency,Jiangwan Hospital.And 200 normal people as control group.2.Methods:Questionnaires of self-rating depression scale(SDS), self-rating anxiety scale(SAS),trait coping style questionnaire(TCSQ) and multiple items were administered to 227 patients with cervical cancer.QOL data were collected using the questionnaires of FACT-Cx(Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cervix)3.Data analysis:SPSS15.0 dealt with the data.The scores were calculated and analyzed with descriptive and multiple linear regression model to determine the influential factors.Results:1.There are 83/227 patients have depressive symptoms(36.56%),and 92/227 have anxiety symptoms(40.52%).The scores of SAS and SDS of cervical cancer patients were significantly higher than the norm.2.The age,family income,operandi modus and treatment programs were critical factors affecting depression.The age,education,stages were critical factors affecting anxiety.Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that SDS scores were negatively correlated with family income,and positively correlated with operandi modus and age;SAS scores were negatively related to age,and positively related to the stage and education.3.The patient had higher scores on negative coping style than the control(P<0.01),but there is no statistically significant differences on positive coping style between cervical cancer patient and the control(P>0.05).4.There were negative correlations between positive coping style and psychological status(P<0.05),but positive correlations between negative coping style and psychological status(P<0.05).5.The average score of quality of life of the 227 cervical cancer patients was 143.78±16.19(95%CI:141.66~145.17),and the average score of FACT-G was 93.95±12.16(95%CI:93.36~94.94).6.There is statistically differences between different ages,residents, stages and treatments(P<0.05).The patients at the later stages, having experienced the combined therapy had lower scores of QOL. Lower scores of physical well-being were in older and later stages patients.The patients with later stages and lived in suburb had lower scores of emotional well-being.Lower scores of other well-being in younger,having experienced the combined therapy and later stages cervical patients.Conclusion:1.Depression and anxiety are common and influenced by multiple complex factors in patients with cervical cancer.Therefore,it is essential that psychological interventions should be carried out during therapy.2.Coping styles are the major factors in psychological problems cancer patients.More patients of cervical cancer take the negative coping styles.Therefore,it is important to take the right coping styles and improve the psychological status.3.The average score of quality of life of the 227 cervical cancer patients was 143.78±16.19(95%CI:141.66±145.17),and the average score of FACT-G was 93.95±12.16(95%CI:93.36~94.94).Stages and treatment were main influential factors of quality of life of the cervical cancer patients.Early diagnosis of cancer,improvement of the treatment effect might improve the quality of life of cancer patients.The work about quality of life evaluate in cervical cancer patients suggests that the establishment of QOL judgment standard in cervical cancer patients might be useful for clinical work.
