This thesis discusses the diachronical evolution and synchronical change, its overlapping, clashes and misunderstanding of the gender consciousness between male and female in the present time in a largely patriarchal culture in the light of gender narration appeared in the Chinese new era novels. It either helps Men to understand the essence of things or prevents men from approaching them. The gender problem, together with problems of male and female character division and social role responsibility, is a gender illusion resulted from the above mentioned language prediction building up in men's minds through thousands of years. It is necessary for re-establishment of a new gender structure and a re-decoding of the gender differences to penetrate and destroy the illusion. It is through the analysis of the definition of "gender consciousness"that this thesis starts the theoretical and textual research on the problem of gender orientation in the new era novel."Gender consciousness" is classified into four sub-categories, namely: physiological, experience, psychological, reception,so cialdistinction, and self-orienta- tion,Which is from three different layers: nature, society and political culture. With the re-discovery ofhumanism and the new awakening of the consciousness of being the fair sex, the problem of gender division is out-grounded and radiates in all directions, especially in the present era with practicality,consumerism, desirabi1ity as its main characteristics. People's sex conception, moral pattern as well as various actions adopted concerning sex become diversified, sometimes in utter disorder. Concentrating on this process, in a sense, is regarding reality and we are constructing and consolidating a harmonious female and male relationship. The questioning process to gender conscionsness of the thesis is, setting female consciousness as the basic point of view , to see why patriarchal culture can build the cultural and psychological standard so large and strong. Women themselves are also under the consideration. The thesis especially and emphatically analyses the actual bases and psychological mechanism of patriarchal culture's existence in modern time. At the same time it makes a focal point at all kinds of misunderstanding, disorder and abnormalities of gender problem in mankind's gender history and look forward its golden future.The new mi 1 lenium has come, a new era i s stretching before us.
