Epidemiological Study Of Awareness,Treatment,and Control Of Hypertension Among Elderly Rural Residents At Rongcheng,China

Objective Cardiovascular disease has become the first cause of death in our country,and hypertension is the most important risk factor.This study was to explore the current levels of the prevalence,awareness,medical treatment,and control of hypertension among the elderly residents from rural areas in Rongcheng area of Shandong Province in this study,and evaluate the important indicator of the level of prevention and treatment of hypertension.Methods From April 2016 to May 2016,we adopt the method of stratified random sampling from 22 townships(street)at Rongcheng area of Shandong provinceamong the residents aged 50 years.According to the geographical location which is divided into 11 coastal areas and inland areas,5 townships were randomly selected in each area,3 villages(neighborhood)randomly selected from each township(street).The actual sample(2618 people)were surveyed,2125 peopleresponse,and combined with the local public health service level,the data were statistically analyzed.Results 1309 out of 2125 adults(?50 years)suffered from hypertension with the prevalence of 61.6% and 516 were newly diagnosed,male prevalence rate was 55.7%,female prevalence rate was 66.5%.The awareness,treatment and control rate were 60.6%,40.7% and 12.9%,respectively,and varied significantly among the elderly with different age and gender.The female elderly awareness and treatment rate was higher than elderly males.Treatment and control rate were higher in young elderly people than the middle-aged and elderly people.Conclusion Although the awareness rate is higher than the national level,but the control rate is lower than the national level.Rongcheng area has a certain progress in hypertension the prevention and control work,but for the control of blood pressure in hypertensive patients still has a certain gap.The intervention should be used to improve the awareness,treatment and control rates of hypertension in Rongcheng area.
